I7-4970k good enough?

Hey guys, my relative will buy me a GTX 1060 soon as a gift and I plan on upgrading the whole thing. So, as it seems I7-4960k seems impressive, but is actually on recommended requirements of fallout 4, it seems that recommended requirements will raise very quickly.

The money I will spend on a CPU will be capped at around 340 euros on a CPU, is there anything I can get for a better value?

Very few games benefit from an i7, especially at 1920x1080
An i5 + GTX 1060 or 1070 would be fine.
But given the CPU you have, there really is nothing to upgrade to. i7-6700K is that much of an improvement. Your CPU should keep you gaming for many years. If you get a 1060, get a 6GB model, not a 3GB model.

Would be better to get a i5-6600k than a i7-4790k and you'd be right for at least a few generations of graphic cards. CPU in most games only accounts for a max of 10% of computer game performance.

If you already have a 4790k, then keep it since it will be a beast for years to come. As long as you have a decent cooler and quality motherboard, then you can overclock it for more performance later down the road. Not the best overclocker since it is already near threshold at stock, but it gets the job done.

Cut short, i7-4790K + GTX 1060 is already a beast. But if you didn't buy the CPU yet, I recommend going with the i5-6600K if you're only doing gaming.

More games will use more cores, especially in Vulkan / DX12, so if you have not upgraded to a modern CPU yet, then an i7-6700k is not a bad idea at all.
