Anyone else thinking about skipping Pascal?
So far, ive yet to have any reason to upgrade from a 980ti. Just wondering what any other high end card owners think. I play at 144hz 1080p and i cant really justify spending money for a small increase in frames. Also im just barely ressiting the urge to just buy a 1070 and sell the 980ti
my specs are
980ti msi gaming
4790K 4.4 ghz
1866 DDR3 16 gb
Mobo: Z97S sli krait edition

If you wait until Volta, the Maxwell cards will lose more value. What could be worth $300 now would only be worth $150 a year later. Something to think about.

If I could sell my GTX 980 for about $300 now, then I could upgrade to a GTX 1080. But I'm not in the position to afford such an upgrade at this time, maybe later. Honestly, though, I would wait to find out about when Volta will release before deciding to splurge on a GTX 1170 or better.

I have 2xEVGA GTX 980Ti Superclocked+ ACX Gaming 2.0+ cards in my system, not even considering upgrading for probably about another year or so, i play most of my games in 4096x2160 resolution on a 50" 4k TV, and my cards have no issue playing at such high resolution, happy with what i have, i can afford to purchase 2x1080's, but do not see the point, as i am more than happy with what i have.. :)

That's the idea behind any hardware upgrade really. If you're content with what you already have, then you don't need an upgrade.

I would agree. While my GTX 980 serves my purposes well for 1080p resolution (and sometimes up to 4K due to DSR), I would wait it out for a while before I decide that an upgrade is warranted.

Already have a 980 Ti? Then I would just stick to that until you actually need more; it won't make sense to switch from 980 Ti to 1070

Now if you wanted more GPU power for say 1440p or 2160p; then maybe selling 980 Ti to go towards a 1080, 1080 Ti would make more sense, sure.

When you already have a high end GPU though, it makes alot of sense to skip a Gen or two before upgrading... unless you really need to upgrade it for various reasons. But do not expect going from a 980 Ti to a 1070 to much of a real world difference.

If you get a 1440p monitor get a 1070.those extra ram will help but at 1080 144hz 980 ti above is overkill IMO. I have 1070 and monitor is same as yours i wish i didn't upgrade my GPU honestly lol

Wait for vega. Even if they don't perform like a titan x, they should help drop the prices. A 1080/490 and higher are the only real upgrade choices from a 980ti.

1440p/144Hz is still fine for most games on a 980 Ti 6GB

Coming from someone who has a R9 390x Strix OC atm, I'm leaning towards waiting tbh. Mostly because of finances, but I had my heart set on the 1080 Strix for a couple months.
