gtx 1070, game crashes, computer restarts, on H1Z1
Recently upgraded gpu to GTX 1070, runs all games great except H1Z1, sometimes a loud explosion will trigger my game to crash and my computer to actually restart.

Any ideas? upgrade sound driver? i use a g35 headset. computer does seem a little hott during a crash/

Im wondering if I should make the fans run more often on my card?

I would suspect either the game or your power supply; but since many other games are fine, I feel that from all info shared here (which I did read through) that it is H1Z1. GTAV for one can be picky with Drivers, so I would seriously think if that alone was your issue, GTAV for one would also give you random hiccups/crashes.

Now an unstable PSU would most likely hard-reboot your system when the CPU + GPU loads get too high or otherwise PSU can't handle that; but again other games working fine, and yes those can definitely be the kinds of games to highly stress such a CPU/GPU, H1Z1 really is not that sort of game, which could run maxed out on much lesser specs.

Many have been complaining about H1Z1 in particular lately, so perhaps just need to wait for a patch update for that one.

Even if your CPU/GPU were getting too hot, that generally would not reboot the system unless the temps still continued to rise after the hardware throttles itself. They would most likely just thermal throttle and the end result would be poor performance at that time period, due to the clock-speeds being forced down to compensate for heat; down-clocking is how the hardware cools itself down to prevent any actual damages from occurring.

6+2pin PCIE Power is a real 8pin; PSU makers do that for the connector side in case you need just multiple 6pin connectors. It's more convenient for the PSU maker and thus provides the user with multiple options based on their hardware needs.

Thanks for the reply,

Part of me hopes the issue is the power supply, since that is a simple fix. (although Im not sure if my powersupply is still under warranty)

My computer actually rebooting is what leeds me to believe its a powersupply issue. Since 90% of the time, random rebooting is powersupply issue. If the GPU was bad, Im thinking Id see performance issues or a BSOD.

It dosent make logical sense to me that my old GPU (GTX 760) ran fine and the new GPU is now causing power issues. But after searching the net.. I have seen many similar problems where the PSU was actually the issue.

My new GPU uses only a few more watts than my old one, but it has a much higher core clock that "boosts" during certain events in the game. Im thinking these sudden core clock boosts are exposing a slowing dying power supply. My power supply is from Sept 2012, so its only 4 years old, but I played a lot of games during those 4 years..... lots of hours of use.

Im thinking I might buy a new powersupply to test it.

If more demanding games dont cause it to restart, i dont think its the PSU.
Like i said, ive been encountering the same thing with both of the Bioshock Remasters, but it only happens to me in THOSE 2 games and Only if Vsync is off.
It's probably your psu. 4 years is a long time, and it's almost 2017, so closer to 5. Corsair's warranty on it is only 5 years. Try running gpu a benchmark. If it crashes, then it's a psu problem. Benchmark your cpu too. Benchmarks usually put more load into your cpu/gpu that games wouldn't use. h1z1's code most likely isn't optimized and is putting similar load. Just because it looks worse/runs better than another game, doesn't mean it isn't more demanding because of bad optimization.

Also, All 8 pin is just 6 pin with extra ground wires.
Trying a new powersupply now.
Any luck?

If not it may just be H1Z1. This game is in early access; expect bugs and performance issues.
Dont know yet, been playing H1Z1 for an hour so far......

Im gonna play 6 hours straight and see.

With the new PSU, Ive been playing 5 hours straight of H1Z1 with no computer reboot. So Im almost ready to say my old PSU was the problem.

Unless its a hell of a coincidence.....

I will keep playing as long as I can tonite.

Old PSU: Corsair HX750 (Sept 2012)

New PSU: Corsair RM850i

Ok, played 8 1/2 hours straight. No reboot, no crash. GPU is a bit warm though =)
good to hear
Corsair HX series has 7-year warranty if I remember correctly; so yea if that really is the issue, you can RMA it through Corsair Support.

CPU/GPU will get hot, that is normal; long as it is not nearly the max temps for that particular CPU/GPU model, then it should be fine.
The problem with the warranty is I never registered the psu, so now I have to find proof of purchase from 2012...
That should never really be needed, simply call Corsair, explain the issues, and that they are resolved with a new PSU already and that you wish to RMA the HX-750. Those PSU have a Bar-Code Sticker on the main Corsair sticker that has all the specs printed on it (on the PSU itself) you can provide them with that, to which they can then know where it was purchased and when. As can be seen here: http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/wp-content/uploads/hx750_022.jpg

Register of the product is really only needed if you intend to only do Online RMA.

see if there's any conflicts.

If you read... OP already replace his/her PSU and the issues have seemed to gone away.
