I forgot to mention my monitor does not have built-in speakers.
Then it really doesn't matter, not at all.
Both are the same quality (Duel-Link over Single-Link DVI thou), depending on HDMI version (higher versions). HDMI just also carries audio to the monitor, which should be ignored and not used anyways. Monitor builtin speakers are utter rubbish.
Thanks for your suggestions.
Its also another reason that, if you are going to do a wall mount of a Display, buy a display where the display connections point down...

rather then facing out the rear of the display, towards the wall.
I dislike HDMI because there is no real way to secure those connections; they don't lock or click into place. They just fit "snug".
If the Display does have down-facing ports, then give the HDMI a little wiggle room, so a slight pull does not disconnect the HDMI and pull it out the socket. Or velcro the HDMI to another cable to help secure it better.
vga -> dvi-a -> hdmi -> dvi-d -> dl-dvi-d -> dp
hdmi is a last resort, desogned to overscan
No overscan, none of that. Only thing some might not realize with using DP, whenever you redo your Drivers, or the Display has changed, you may need to go into NVIDIA-CP and change the RGB mode from Limited to Full, otherwise the Gamma/Colors are bit dull when on Limited.
DP can handle Audio too. People are just more familiar with HDMI being an option because of TVs and Consoles; but that is also another reason I suggest if you only have limited room for Displays and you have PC, Consoles, etc... try to reserve the Displays HDMI for those things that "must" use that.
My main system I use 3x screens connected via DP
On each, the HDMI is freed up and I use those 3x HDMI for... XBO, PS4, Phone or Tablet. The one for Phone/Tablet is a Micro USB to HDMI Adapter Cable that stays plugged in on the Display-side for such needs.
That's fine. Check resolution and refresh rate is fully supported to what the monitor handles and then you are sorted. Enjoy your gaming!
It's not a major deal between them, specially if the HDMI cable is at least 1.3 or higher.
HDMI Version 1.3
- Higher speed similar to that of a DVI Duel-Link cable
- Deeper colour
- Boader colour space
- HD lossless audio formats support
HDMI Version 1.4
- Ethernet channel
- Audio return channel
- 3D support
- 4K support
- Expanded colour spaces support (for digital cameras)
