1060 6g is slightly better
Just don't go for the founders editions ever and it will be all good.
A decent i5 like that will not have issues with any of the current gens cards and that includes the new titan.
nvidia actually did a comparison a couple months ago
http://www.geforce.com/whats-new/articles/nvidia-geforce-gtx-1060
and the 1070 is faster than a Ttitan X. O_o
1080 about 3 times faster than a 980 and twice as fast as a 980Ti
just shows how much performance gain there is from last generation..
if only it were like this every year.. we'd all be upgrading yearly lol..
GTX 1070 = GTX 980 Ti / Titan X (previous version)
GTX 1080 = 2x GTX 980 SLI performance levels or better
Of course it depends on the model versions...
If you can get a second hand GTX 970 (optimal for 1080p) or GTX 980 (optimal for 1440p) for cheap... then go for those, however if getting brand new, you will be much better off with the Nvidia Pascal series GTX 1060 or above.
Consider the GTX 970 as a remake of the GTX 780 3GB card. It's had an additional 1GB video memory thrown in for free, but 0.5GB of that is a slower last reserve memory pool. Therefore treat it as 3.5GB (which is still fine for 1080p) - avoid maxing out 4GB.
GTX 1060 has two versions (3GB or 6GB). 3GB is similar to the GTX 970 without that additional freebee 1GB video memory (0.5GB of which was a slower pool). 6GB is better performance (getting to GTX 980 performance) and twice the memory, more ideal for future proofing SLI and multiple monitors, etc. A single monitor @ 1080p with a single card, will leave some of that video memory just sitting idle (and therefore wasted), but it's there for future stuff (depending on your plans).
As for model, comes down to your own taste... however I highly recommend Asus Rog STRIX DirectCUIII (factory overclock, but also cooler and quieter - has a good warranty too).
