G-Sync monitor not limiting FPS anymore
Usually my monitor limits every game to 144fps but for some reason every game is now unlocked now. In ETS and other games I get constant coil whine from my graphics card which is really annoying. Does anybody know a solution?

in nvidia control panel, force it to use gsync
Limiting frame rate to 144hz would be vsync, not gsync.

You can use gsync and vsync at the same time.

There was a previous driver that forced vsync on with gsync. Maybe you updated your driver and noticed that it was resolved?

Whatever the case may be, if you want frames limited to 144, simply enable vsync or use a frame limiter.

Of course G-Sync limits your fps. How else could it synchronise the refreshrate of your monitor with the fps you're getting. @bill s.preston, esquire
Thanks @_I_

Gsync doesn't limit your framerate. It syncs your monitors refresh rate with your framerate.
Gsync only makes sense when your don't reach constant 144fps. When you play games like CS:GO or LOL where you would have easy more then 144fps, you should activate Vsync, because you cant see more then 144fps on a 144Hz monitor anyway. If you can't reach constant 144fps, then you should activate Gsync, so you will have no screentearing when you jump from 60 to 90fps for example

So you should give yourself input lag in a competitive shooter because you can't see frames over 144fps? That makes no sense either.

I play csgo on a pg279q with gsync enabled and have no issues whatsoever.

Gsync synchronizes the refresh rate of the monitor with the frame rate. This is not the same as limiting your maximum frame rate.

If frames go over your max refresh rate, in your case 144hz, then the screen will just stay at 144hz and the frame rate will still go higher.

As I said before, if you want to limit the maximum frame rate, you need to enable vsync or use a frame limiter.
You can't really eradicate coil completely whine but watch this.

@Lisa you don't have a 144hz monitor and your answer is completely worthless. "Can't see more than 60fps" is like the most stupid answer I've heard in a while
@Bill well if you say so...

That's not what she said, she said "because you cant see more then 144fps on a 144Hz" which is completely true..... Talking about stupid replies ^^^^

@mancsoulja yeah well I guess that's true but since she said that I should active V-sync, which is a lot worse than g-sync and basically the exact same thing, the reply is still worthless.

At 144htz Vsync input lag will be about 10ms or lower, less than most moniors response time :steamfacepalm:

@manc v-sync only goes to 60hz and if you didn't know yet. And the response time of a monitor is usually about 1-5ms. Mine has 4.
No v sync actually goes the full 144hz? I always red that it only goes to 60
