Hardware Acceleration...
So, I've recently just finished building a new PC and I've noticed that scrolling is laggy in EDGE and the Steam Store App when a video is playing and is visible on screen.

I resolved the issue by disabling hardware acceleration in EDGE and GPU accelerated rendering in the interface settings of the Steam App.

I'm curious why I've had to do this, I didn't have to with my 6 year old i7 6700/GTX 980 TI machine.

If relevant new system is
AMD 5700x
4x8GB 3600Mhz 16/16/16/36 1.35v
2TB Samsung 980 Pro
4TB Samsung 870 EVO
Asus 3070 TUF (526.47)
Windows 10 Pro (10.0.19044 Build 19044)
Power settings = Balanced but setting to high power made no difference.

Thanks for any input as I am rather curious.. and a little worried there might be a wider issue.

Many thanks
A

Well you could always try a previous driver I suppose. If that doesn't do anything, you'd just have to do some troubleshooting to figure out what the issue is. There might not be a wider is, but there is some kinda of inconvenient issue nonetheless.

Lots of people used chrome based web browsers (like Edge and the Steam client). So I'd look up what other people on high end hardware with that issue have done. There's probably lots of discussions and solutions to look at. Which one, if any, will solve your problem all depends on how much troubleshooting you're gonna tolerate.

Do you have any issues playing games? How are your temps?

Temps, Idle with notepad, Steam and Edge open
Cores are below 25c
GPU @ 32c

Just run Timespy as I don't have any games installed yet and highest CPU core was 48.9c and GPU was 63.2c or 74.8c for the hotspot (I haven't installed Afterburner yet, I need to modify the fan curve to bring that down a little).

Just gonna install something and see how it plays...

K, just fired up "The Ascent".
@1080p Ultra settings with motion blur and film grain disabled,FPS in game was 163-202, no artefacts, no jank, played as expected without issue.

Highest CPU core temp was 51.3c and GPU temps were below Timespy temps

Other temps (max)
980 Pro = 42c
870 Evo = 50c
RAM = 37.3c
Chipset = 51c

***EDIT***
Just to make things a little harder on the system I enabled CPU Performance mode and all three RTX options and the FPS was 54-72 (DLSS not enabled), hottest CPU core was 47.5c and GPU was 62.1c with a hotspot of 72.4c.

No other temps look any where near of concern, so I think it's safe to rule that out.

DDU wipe the GPU Drivers.
Reboot and install either 512.xx / 522.25 (DCH type)
526 driver is buggy.

You are also not on the latest Win10; update it.

Speaking of which, this is why I'd install at least one browser that is based on a different engine like Firefox or Pale Moon to make sure certain unexplainable quirks are not specific browser related.

At the ridiculous rate most common browsers are getting their version updates nowadays, I ain't even surprised the devs are breaking more than a few things along the way while fixing others.

What is wrong with 21H2?

btw, l guess trying an older version of the driver will fix the issue.

Thanks for the replies and sorry for the late reply, been a busy day, as soon as I've had something to eat I'll run DDU and roll back to 522.25 as that is what my old machine is on and I know that doesn't have the issue...

***EDIT***
Ah yes and thank you Bad 💀 Motha, am updating Windows now.

Well that was simple, thank you. Updated to 19045 and enabled Hardware Acceleration on Steam and EDGE and both are now scrolling smoothly when a video is playing an visible on screen. Bad 💀 Motha, if I have any inventory items you would like as a thank you, please let me know, least I can do.
