MSI GS70 2QE RAM Question
Recently I bought MSI laptop (GS70 2QE). It came with 8GB RAM and I thought that it might me a good idea to upgrade it to 16 (I've read that it doesn't support more than that). So can you tell me which RAM should I buy, ideally with links? I live in UK, so UK shops or eBay please. Thank you.

It supports up to 16GB (2x 8GB)
So check to see first, what is actually installed; 1x 8GB or 2x 4GB
If 2x 4GB then you will have to remove those if you wish to upgrade the RAM.

If 1x 8GB and wish to add a 2nd 8GB to get 16GB Total
Power off the system, open the bottom cover, look at the sticker on the RAM to see the Model & Type (DDR3L or DDR4)

Lookup the model# printed on the sticker, that should reveal the specs of the current RAM.

Like this for example:

PC3 = DDR3
PC4 = DDR4
But again check the exact model.
And Laptop RAM are all "SO-DIMM" types

Thank you for the reply, but actually in this model to replace RAM you need to take out whole motherboard, that's why I asked.

True for that models, yes.

That is why I would advise never buy such cheap models; MSI GT is much better overall.
GS is thin; which usually means you end up with a Motherboard layout as it is.

Here is how to dissemble MSI GS70 models.

However this differs a bit depending on older GS70 -vs- newer GS70 models.
For some, the RAM slots are located on the Keyboard side; so yes it must be taken apart nearly completely to get to that side of the Motherboard.

While some of those models, are like this:

^ In this model, only the base/bottom cover needs to be removed to gain access to the RAM slots.
I went to the Laptop Service in my town and they quoted me 80 pounds for the 16 GB RAM and 30 for replace, so I think that it's not that bad. I think I will go there to do this, because I am afraid that if I try to do it myself I will break something. And for 30 pounds it's not worth doing it myself. Thank you for the help.

Given those prices; can I ask what is it you do, where you feel the 16GB of RAM will help overall compared to having 8GB?

Did you get an SSD + HDD in your Laptop? That would be much more beneficial; with OS on SSD and HDD for general storage or lesser demanding games that wouldn't benefit from faster loading times when on SSD.

I have SSD plus HDD and as you said it makes a huge difference. Computer literally boots up in 5 seconds.

To be honest I don't have any issues with 8GB of RAM. I play Witcher 3 on Uber (without few things on like nVidia Hairworks) smoothly with 30 FPS. It's just I see that recommend settings on new games is 16GB of RAM.

Do you think that it's not worth it and I won't feel any difference between current 8 and future 16GB?
