How many hours does my hard drive have on it?
Ok so I purchased a HGST (Hitatchi) Deskstar 7K4000 (2TB @7200RPM with a 64MB cache I think) for about $54 on Amazon that was refurbished with a one year warranty, pretty sure it is an Enterprise hard drive that was used in a server.

I really just purchased this hard drive for the heck of it to have extra storage but have decided I'll be using it for my Steam backups.

I wanted to see how many hours it has on it so I downloaded DiskCheckup, it says Spin Up Time is 42949672960 (Raw data).

Am I reading that wrong or does that say over 42 billion hours?

Try tools like this: http://crystalmark.info/software/CrystalDiskInfo/index-e.html

Yes, there's some readout error. How many hours it ran is defined by power on hours.

It's a fun fact but,
Surprisingly, we found that temperature and activity levels were much less correlated
with drive failures than previously reported.

Most 3rd party apps can tell you that kind of info for SSDs/HDDs.
- Auslogics Disk Defrag
- Piriform Defraggler
- Piriform Speccy
- HD Tune
- Crystal Disk Info

If you have your drive coming up as a alot of "unknown" then it could be due to your SATA Chipset. Such as when using some NVIDIA nForce Chipset based SATA

Victoria for DOS can detect drive via new nForce - MHDD - can't

From ^^^ list only Crystal Info is a complete tool for the diagnosis under Windows, others take the information from the BIOS
Btw, if it was repaired at the factory, the information could completely rewrited ;)
and trust it is not necessary

You only check that it does not re-mapped the drive at "home serviceman"... although there are such craftsmen that can modifie factory firmware, and the translator, and services data...
