20-30 bucks more for 40-50% performane gain. Not a bad deal. ^^
In case of this being just a appreciation-thread, I do agree. It always depends on the individual and the games you want to play but the 2600k is still able to its job.
But it kind of applies to almost all CPUs, doesnt it ? Sandy, Ivy, Haswell(<3), Broadwell, Skylake, Kaby and Coffee, were talking only quality CPUs.
That does apply to AMD as well, except the Bulldozer mess. Everything which was published after that, is worth using even today.
Obviously i bought it brand new in 2011 and it was a beast back then. It still holds up just fine, because of hyperthreading, unlike all the i5’s.
Same with AMD's side, you can find Ryzen 7 1700X for 100$, Ryzen 5 1600 or Ryzen 5 2600 for 70$
no room to add a dedicated gpu, but you could transplant it into a better case
no oc and limited on other upgrades, but cheap and still decent for 60fps gaming when paired with a good gpu
i would look for something newer tho
9th gen i5 or later, or ryzen 3600/5600
Beggars can't be choosers I guess. And I've waded so deep into higher end hardware I can't imagine considering cutting corners that much.
But this is why I tend to give my retired systems away rather than sell them.
As for the 2600K, I think it's still a functional CPU even with modern games, one thing for sure, its 4C/8T is in better standing than, say, an 2500K with just 4C/4T. As long as framerate hits playable, it should be fine.
I have a SB-E CPU in the i7 3960X (6C/12T) + X79 mobo, with a Vega64 and games are just fine, I can't hit higher framerate than say, with a 12700K, but framerate is still good and quite playable. Plus, more stress is on my GPU as that system is hooked up to a 3440x1440 75Hz monitor. My HTPC (i7 4770K + GTX 1080) does 4K gaming just fine as well, ofc at 4k, needless to say I'm GPU bottlenecked. still does nicely with GoW (with FSR). It's all about managing expectations when gaming with older hardware.
