Check the Youtube for some videos on how to do it, it`s slightly different from motherboard to motherboard but general principle is still the same.
Yes it`s possible to brick the board with update but it`s not very common, if you lose power during the update it`s game over for motherboard though.
So it is best to download the update from board maker; then extract the contents (loose files, no folders or sub-folders) to a USB Flash Drive (you can put these files even on a Linux/WinOS bootable USB flash drive you already made). Then enter your BIOS and use the update option, it should see the update off the USB.
