Ryzen 5800x dram fault help
Hello friends,

So I bought a 5800x to upgrade my 3800x. Ram is Corsair vengeance pro @3600. 16gb.

Slot cpu, paste and try to post but dram light stays lit and nothing on monitor. I reinstalled the 3700 and posts normal.

Question is, is this ram to compatible. Also I tried two 16gigs of trident Z neo also at 3600 with same results.

Anyone have a similar issue? Thanks!

Most likely some older BIOS version on your motherboard. If you have not done that yet then you should really update the BIOS.

you will need to update your bios so the cpu is supported

Didn't even think of that. I've never done it but know I can do it in bios. I've heard there's a chance you can brick your board so I never did. Is any of that true?

You need to reset the bios, boot and have your USB flash drive ready with the very latest bios update. Then perform the update in the bios with the memory on the factory defaults.

Check the Youtube for some videos on how to do it, it`s slightly different from motherboard to motherboard but general principle is still the same.
Yes it`s possible to brick the board with update but it`s not very common, if you lose power during the update it`s game over for motherboard though.

Thanks. Yeah I'll look up where to do the bios. is it the same process like when you make a flash for windows?

You can just use your existing Win10 or 12 flash drive. Download the bios update from the support page for your exact Motherboard model. Extract the file contents to the flash drive. Connect flash drive to rear Motherboard USB port. Reboot and enter the bios and select bios update option. Just do not interrupt the process or lose power once the process starts.

Depends on board. Dual bios is safer. Just make sure your USB pen is good and do it all from bios.

USB pen? What's that? Can update right in bios?

Another name for a usb flash drive. Look on your motherboards manufacturer site to see how you update your bios.

Quick question. I'm going to update the BIOS on a b350f board to drop in a 5600. Does anyone know if the first gen Ryzen will still work on the board after update?

I don't see why not. It's just that newer bios' tend to target newer CPUs, so it may not be as good for the older CPU (might impact any fine tuned memory settings etc etc).

Some boards can read the bios update off of C drive; however many still can not.
So it is best to download the update from board maker; then extract the contents (loose files, no folders or sub-folders) to a USB Flash Drive (you can put these files even on a Linux/WinOS bootable USB flash drive you already made). Then enter your BIOS and use the update option, it should see the update off the USB.

Just an update. The flash update worked as everyone said. Thanks for the help.
