Branding doesn't really make that much of a difference because the meat of the monitor (the panel itself) is made by one of a few manufacturers like LG, Samsung, AUOptronics, etc.

It only makes a difference in knowing what to avoid. Expect issues with monitors that are being sold cheaply, from lower-range models from respected brands, and from monitors that aren't highly reviewed (or doesn't have many reviews at all to judge whether or not it's likely to be very good or very bad).

As a general rule though: Acer, ASUS, Dell (including Alienware), Samsung, and LG have the bulk of the best monitors on the market today.

BenQ, AOC, MSI, and ViewSonic have some decent options but might have more frequent quality control issues. Corsair is fairly new to this market, but they could become good later.

Gigabyte is a brand to avoid for displays, at least if you're not going for their higher end AORUS branded monitors, because both the quality of the monitor and the warranty service quality drops heavily when you settle for their regular Gigabyte branded monitors. I've heard too many horror stories about Gigabyte support to ever recommend them, and had my own negative experiences with Gigabyte products. They only care about AORUS, everything else be damned. Don't buy Gigabyte.

Also, 2K is 1080p, not 1440p. Retailers keep calling 1440p 2K, but it's completely wrong, and it's misleading just like 4K, aka 3840x2160p.

Best monitor size for 1080p = ~24"
Best monitor size for 1440p = ~27"
Best monitor size for 2160p = ~32"
What are the HDR standards?
I find this monitor : https://www.ldlc.com/fiche/PB00263544.html
HDR400 is OK, it's what I have, but there's better.

it isnt the fastest monitor(5ms gray to gray), but i always liked EIZO and i had a very good experience with a 17" EIZO crt monitor until 2006. an almost evil thing is the price ~1000 € of the EIZO ev2785 (in germany).

edit: i did not care for the thing, that mr threadstarter wants 2k/144hz. i am sorry.
Eizo isn't that good anymore. They were pretty good few years ago. Now other Brands are way better like Samsung. For 1000€ You can get way better Monitors also the Corsair Monitor is really good compare to the Price

I have a LG 32GP850-B 32 Ultra Gear 32" 1440, it's outstanding. Pretty basic controls but it's around 1ms, has adaptive sync or low motion blur mode. You can't use the both at the same time but there's little motion blur in sync mode. It's outstanding and affordable if you want to go with a 32" 16:9.

The Alienware Ultra Wide is infamously excellent but I find it novelty more than anything. I found I just tune out the peripheral vision so 16:9 is fine with me.

I have a 48" LG C1 with 120hz gsync, it's outstanding but has flicker with gsync. Other than that it has all the features, fully loaded.

The Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI), a group of motion picture studios that creates standards for digital cinema, defines Standard DCI 2K resolution as 2048 x 1080 (opens in new tab)pixels. But you'll rarely see this resolution when buying a PC monitor(opens in new tab) or choosing a laptop(opens in new tab). You'll often find 2K displays with a 2560 x 1440 resolution. However, that resolution is officially considered Quad HD (QHD)(opens in new tab). As such, many monitors and gaming laptops (opens in new tab)claim their resolution as 2K/QHD.

Common Monitor Resolutions
5K 5120 x 2880
4K 3840 x 2160 (typical monitor resolution); 4096 x 2160 (official cinema resolution)

Samsung has the best Panels.
I love my Odyssey G7. I've owned quite a few of the cheaper brands and don't regret spending the money at all. In my experience high quality and low price don't usually go together you get one or the other.

If you filter monitor, I think better to filter by spec and not by bland.

There are so many monitor maker and models.
Any good maker could make not great model.
