Need help with recommendation for wired controller
So had my ancient xbox 360 controller break a few weeks ago, it was one of the old see through plastic ones that I used for PC fighting and emulator games. That and I had an port converter for it to get it to connect to a USB port.

Now I'm on the hunt for a new but better quality controller but I've got no idea what to look for.
What stores sell good controllers these days? Tried looking at gamestop and Amazon but both seem to have a lot of choices but they look like crap that'd break in a week from light gaming.
Was hoping if someone could throw me some links or personal recommendations of what they use? I'd appreciate it, thanks

I think all first party controllers are good standard, PS4 DualShock4, PS5 DualSense, Switch Pro Controller (some issue with Steam), Xbox Series S/X controller (some dpad diagonal input issue). Among these I would pick DualShock4.

I also use Horipad FPS Plus. It has turbo button, but no vibration.

For accurate control, I use Astro C40TR. But not sure if it worth for the cost.

And I use arcade stick for 3 usages. 4 way control for retro game. Regular 8 ways. And hitbox (lever to button conversion). For this part I like MayFlash F300 Elite for Sanwa parts and wide variety support.

If you are a bit handy for making holes, you can convert to hitbox.

xbone s/x are great usb or bt
I used xbox 360 original controller and several fancy 3rd party controllers but the Logitech F310 lasted the longest. It's the cheapest of all and don't have vibration, but it's built like a rock.
Logitech F310 is pretty good. Been using it since 2016.
It can switch between XInput and DirectInput too!
I use an Elite 2 xbox controller, they're a bit on the pricey side but a good, solid pad with interchangeable sticks/dpad and extra programmable paddles on the back too. I use a standard data cable to wire it to the pc

Other than that the standard xbox one pads are a great choice too

I would agree. I've had good luck with all my Logitech controllers including the F310. I'm currently using the F710 on my desktop, but that's the wireless version.
Most wireless controllers, you can just leave plugged in and use them wired. It'll kill the battery leaving it plugged in all the time, but you won't have to worry about signal drops if someone microwaves some leftover pizza the next room over.
Any tips to setting up/defining the F310. My first attempt failed miserably.

If you're in Directinput mode, I prefer to use the open source Antimicro/AntimicroX rather than joy2key or the Steam Big Picture controller settings.

I've never had a complaint about a Logitech controller. Even right now I'm on my laptop with a Logitech G-UF13A, the Logitech Dual Action plugged in. I've had it since Windows XP was the newest version of Windows, and it works as well as the day I bought it. I probably wouldn't recommend it today due to the lack of analog triggers, but I'm using to play Playstation games right now anyway so...
