One thing I did eventually find after tons of searching was someone mentioned, when calibrating the controller, to hit the touchpad instead of the select/share button, to basically force it to use the touchpad for something. Not a perfect solution but I'm going with that at the very least because it's easier to touch for mode shifting, and almost no games really use the select button (but even if they do I can just mode shift something to work as it).

if you can post its usb vid/pid it may help
When it's working you can do a lot of stuff with it. Use it as a mouse, buttons, directional swipes, enable gyro, touch menu, radial menu, etc.
along with mode switch/layers, as far as you wan to go with it
