Controller Power A drifting
I was using power A xbox controller but after 9 months it started drifting. If I open the case to clean it up, the warranty would be void. So they sent me a replacement instead. They told me to dispose the old controller.

I did open up the case, watched a YouTube video on how to fix controller drifting but it didn't fix the problem.

The replacement is working ok so far.

Probably because I played fighting game using the first power A controller. I stay away from fighting games now.

Having said that, my Nintendo Wii classic controller still has no issue even after using it for several years. I played some fighting games back then like smash bros and capcom vs tatsunoko.

Anyone here has encountered drifting issue with xbox controller, official controller or not?

Thanks.

Controllers can wear out regardless of the manufacturer, the big variable is the level of use or abuse. Buying cheap controllers can see them wear out faster. And I'd expect quality products to hold up better. In general first party controllers tend to be pretty good because so many people end up with a couple and if they break down or wear out easily it's hard to conceal that. See Nintendo joycon drift. Aside from that Nintendo does have a pretty good reputation in making solid products that hold up. I've been generally pleased since the NES.

On the PC I've used Xbox controllers for years and they've always worked fine and held up well. But I would qualify my use as a light as I tend to prefer using a kb/mouse when it's an option. So I can go weeks or months without using a controller sometimes. Hard to wear things out when usage is part time, and I tend to be pretty kind to my electronics which certainly doesn't harm them.

But if you're using a controller ten times as much as I do, I expect yours to wear out before mine for obvious reasons.

the game makes no difference

the controller needs a new pot module, not very easy to replace for a beginner
but for those experienced at desoldering through hole devices it can be done

my PS4 controllers use to get drift too and it was fixable by simply opening up the controller and then opening the analog housing and cleaning the contacts with alcohol. it worked great and saved me from buying new ones.

this video will explain it a lot better, and maybe its possible to fix the xbox controller just the same

Controllers (even cheaper ones like PowerA brand) can last you many years if you take care of them. Don't bang them around, throw them or drop them. If needed, take the controller apart and clean it. Using silicon oil lube spray on the joystick areas inside the controller helps quite a bit. I also like to keep them clean, easy to do with a lint-free-rag + iso-alcohol

You have to spend to get a decent controller today. However, my advice is to open it up to get to the sticks and spray electrical contact cleaner spray inside of each stick. If that doesn't work then they're damaged.

If you can return/replace them I would do that first, but since these are cheap controllers it'll most likely happen again.

Not with an official MS controller. My left Rift-S controller stick has had drift problems, but I fixed it with the magic spray. Buy a can, it's useful for many things (buttons, mechanical keyboards, controller sticks...)

Never thought about using my DeoxIT FaderLube to fix the problem. Going to try this on my 2 360 controllers that have had drift for some time. Usually just set the dead zone in the controller configs to avoid the drift.

I used the WD40 one, which is a lot cheaper, but I imagine they'll all work for this specific issue.
