HDCP enables an encrypted connection between the videocard and the monitor so that you can not duplicate the signal to record copyright protected content.

If you use a digital connection over DVI, HDMI or DisplayPort you are pretty much already connected through a HDCP capable connection.
VGA/DSUB or DVI-A can not utilize HDCP as those are analog connections.
HDCP is almost 20 years old by now and a long since established standard.

With nVidia you can easily check if you have a HDCP protected connection to your monitor:

edit:

i just installed my 24" fullhd monitor made by acer and i play it by DVI-D.. so better buy the bluray burner(i chose Hitachi/LG/ amazon) and the cyberlink dvd/bluray software. why? VLC mediaplayer is no good. necessary subtitles are not shown. i hate this.

thank you.

any connected digital display supports hdcp (basically anything but vga and dvi-a)

remote displays do not, but there are workarounds
disabling hardware acceleration in player (browsers) will skip the hdcp check and allow steam/moonlight to grab the unencrypted display signal

ok. thx.

Keep in mind that circumventing HDCP will also make BluRay playback impossible as the player will constantly monitor if the HDCP connection is active.

Even the YouTube app on the Nintendo Switch does that and refuses to play back ANYTHING while the output is going through my Elgato Capture card which can not use HDCP.

for what is a capture card?

So i can livestream or record gameplay from the Nintendo Switch to online viewers.

i see. thx.
What issues could one expect if there is no support for HDCP in place?

I ask because some of you may remember I had an issue with my TV (used connected to a PC), which I remedied with a replacement main board. While the TV works, there's definitely some oddities now, and one of them is that I noticed it claims HDCP is not supported, and it was before. Streaming still works thus far, but I haven't tried playing any DVDs. I expect this might fail?

Another is that sometimes when turning the TV on, the signal is cut off around the sides (I guess this is "overscan"?). I basically work around this by going into the nVidia control panel and switching the resolution to something else, then back to the normal one, which usually fixes it (sometimes take a few cycles).

Why would HDCP stop working due to the board change? Might it be because one of the cables (for the remote/input button panel) isn't properly connected? or maybe my HDMI cable went bad?

Never thought it was worth reviving the thread about my TV over this, but since someone else asked about HDCP and I noticed mine claims no support now, I wanted to ask if I should be alright purely with streaming on it.
