Thank you
I have the AM2+
The reason I'm not doing a new build is simple, This PC was the last one I built with my father. I just want to boost this one for now, and figure out something else later.
He'd need a ddr 3 mobo/ddr3 capable cpu /ddr3 ram to swap it out because the x4 920/940 only had a ddr2 imc.
He should just pop a gtx 1060 3GB/6GB on it then at least he'll have a decent gpu for later on if he does deside to swap the cpu/mobo/ram.
Ps, If he can get a cheap $50 used x6 1100T/1090T it'll pop into that am2+ mobo and those cpus have dual IMCs both ddr2/ddr3 so no problems with the existing ddr2.

One of the more ^ cpu intensive games with an amd x6 / gtx1060 6GB
The GTX 1060 will go in any board even the GA-790.
The problem you're going to have is the x4 920 will not work in the am3/am3+ boards because they only come with ddr3 dimms.
If you're keeping the GA-790 board the gtx1060 should be backwards compatible with pci-e 2.0.
If you're swapping out mobo then you'll need a new cpu/mobo/ram ddr3or ddr4.
If you want amd again the FX8300 with a 212evo overclocked /GA-990FXA-UD3/2x8GB ddr3 would be what to look at reasonably priced.
If you go intel an i3 6100/B150 mobo/2x8GB ddr4 is what to look at on the cheap or substitute i5 6400/6500 if you play GTA V/Fallout 4/Overvwatch type games.
Regardless if you put the GTX1060 in your current build it'll be miles ahead of your old gtx550ti even with the bottlenecking going on from the x4 920 plus like I said when you eventually swap up the cpu/mobo/ram you'll have the gtx1060 6GB already.

Intel on the cheap ^.

Moderately priced intel ^.
For amd FX8300 $114/8350 $150/cm212plus $20/whatever 990FXmobo and 2x8GB ddr3 you can dig up but at this time the 990FX boards aren't cheap enough and intel i5 6500 set up is the better option.
Thanks, I actually have another PC that has the 990FX with a GTX 460. So I might install the 1060 on this PC, and transfer the 550TI to the 990FX board. In a perfect world I would put the 1060 on the 990FX, but it defeats the purpose of upgrading this PC
The gtx460 is better than the 550ti ^ so if you're replacing the 550ti with the gtx1060 then just sell the 550ti or pop it in a drawer for if you ever need it.
What cpu is in the sabertooth board?
AMD FX 6100; Like I said, I had no clue which was better, I've made more progress in two days, than I've made in 2 months of googling. I also checked out the 1060 PNY Geforce today; I should be able to get my hands on it by Monday. Back to the Sabertooth, Im having a hard time with the Sabertooth not recognizing any of the hard drives, except for one. You see, this PC was used to maintain servers; so I'm thinking I might have to wipe the drive, and go get a copy of windows 10 and restart. Is there a way I could make a unlisted YouTube video of both of my machines, so you can easily see what I'm dealing with?
Buy the new Graphics Card - Buy a new PSU - Overclock your CPU/Motherboard until you have enough money for a new Intel Platform.
Complete waste of money, time and nerves if you want to Upgrade this AMD CPU.
It's not a waste of money, considering I can switch things over If I build a new machine. I don't need anything insane right now, and I just want to boost my current machine. I really don't know if I could ever completely redo my current machine; because of sentimental value. I'm honestly having a hard time switching to the 1060 as-is. I honestly don't see myself ripping into it in the future, I don't think I could bring myself to do it, with that being said; I still want a little more performance out of it. That's why we are where we are. As much as I would love to go ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and build something cool, I would have to buy the same case, and find components that are modern versions of my current set-up. Hell, I can't even get rid of my father's P.O.S. car, much less a machine that I've spent endless hours helping build, and upgrade with him. Do you understand now?
The GTX 1060 would be a worthwhile upgrade if you want, I would suggest an EVGA card myself. I also understand about not wanting to rip into it. Sorry for your loss.
