Why can my computer barley run Rust
I have a laptop ( I know that might be part of the problem but it is still decent)
I7
Gtx1050
8GB RAM
And good internet
But it runs like garbage, while I can play games like overwatch, at over 60 fps with no issues at all
I understand that it is poorly optimized but I have seen people that have worse specs that run it way better
I have checked my task bar while running and it is EATING up my RAM bad!
The whole game is like on huge memory leak, I don't know if it is :/ laptop ram is worse or what?
I have tries a lot of different thing ( setting to to dedicated graphic, changing steam settings, running it on potatoes etc.) And nothing seems to work it just really frustrates me

I have like a 20 min load time, and then the game will crash half of the time. It is usually good once I run it for a while, but the first few moments minutes I am in the game it is very jerky and freezing and if I do anything much it will crash, and if I am lucky it will A/V me from the server and need t close my game so I don't have to wait another 20 mins

Well games utilize resources differently, not all games run off the same engine and have the same real world demands. Some games can be much more RAM intensive or CPU intensive than say Overwatch. They can be much more demanding than Overwatch, even though Overwatch might appear prettier. And additionally a laptop can have throttling images do to overheating.

I mean unless you want to get into some real details, like your full system specs, and the systems specs of the folks who have worse systems but run it better (as you claim), it's all guesswork as to the explanation there.

I'd be curious what your temps are as a first step because that's a common issue on laptops. Make sure your drivers are updated, and try lowering your settings to reduce demands on your system.

Laptops are notorious for heat issues.
Where you need power there is only 8 gigs when 16 is recommended.
Update the gpu drivers.
Windows 7 x 64 or windows 10 x 64?
age of laptop?

Ahh, thank you very much, I know there was some kind of issue with ram, btw t I didn't think about cooling/heating issues I will look into it

I am playing it on potatoe which is the worst setting and I am on with Windows 10, also it says my gpu drivers are updated when I search on windows, but I think there may be a new Nvidia driver available. Still don't know temps but I can check that sometime

Gpu is 57c and CPU is 77c

well I'm hoping it's not Windows 7, because Windows 7 does not have DX 12 support.

Wrong.

So far only WoW uses it. But Microsoft did port DirectX12 to Windows 7.

what i7 exactly?
some i7 mobile cpus are still dual core with ht

rust min req is a 3rd gen i7 desktop cpu
3770 is 3.4ghz quad with ht

gtx 1050 mobile gpu is not the same as the desktop ver
mobile gtx 10xx+ performance can vary wildly depending on power delivery and cooling

I highly doubt the 1050 came with a dual core i7 in a laptop, they are found more in thin low power laptops not paired with a discreet GPU.

I would have to agree that it's the mobile 1050 that is the issue since it's quite a bit weaker than the min requirement of a 670.

just for reference... the mx 150 is worse than a mobile gtx 1050...

which happened a week ago, and that's only 1 game out of how many games on the PC market that use DX 12? Regardless it doesn't matter, we aren't talking about WoW, we are talking about Rust. Which I see no information online for that game ever getting DX 12 support on Windows 7.

You said Windows 7 does not have DirectX12 support. Which is wrong. Yes, only one game uses it so far, but the support in itself does exist.
I did not even deny it's only one game.
That Rust does not support it is irrelevant. Your statement was simply wrong.

her is my computer if that helps any, I thought it was a RAM issue since even before I started this discussion but I thought I had a pretty solid graphics card

I don't really see what else would be the problem b/c if you look at the specs it doesn't say that it is using mobile graphics card and the processor is qaud core, I know it was a laptop but it was still a pricey one, but I did get in for a good cyber monday deal

- The CPU & GPU should be fine for Rust. Won't max it out, but should run fine.
- 8GB of RAM could be. The game loves to use RAM.
- Make sure it's actually using the 1050 and not the integrated. Check settings in Nvidia Control Panel / Optimus (if that's still a thing).
