Some games may be CPU dependent while others are RAM or GPU dependent. ... No matter the case, a CPU temperature should play around 75-80 degrees celsius when gaming. When the computer is doing small processes or in an idle state, it should be around 45 degrees celsius to a little over 60 degrees celsius at most.Aug 3, 2018
on this website the 62°C max opaerational temperature is shown.(you have to search a little. scroll down to "specifications")

On mine I had a cheapo hyper 212 plus on it idled 27c, p95 load 47c, gaming 40-43c.
Ps, besides if your monitor reads over 66c you're over the threshold.
hwmonitor reads 2 temperatures: 55°C for cpu and 66°C for the cores. the cpu doesnt throttle then
I've always gone by cores for temps.
Older CPUs like am2/2+/3 tend to get flakey around 56- 58c amd likes cold .
If you're happy running at 66c go a head enjoy.

This is correct. My 955 would start having "issues" when the temp got into the 60s.
It's important to note that AMD cpus don't actually have temp sensors. It's a calculated temp and why idle temps are useless info and any temp reading below 50ish is just really rough guess work. The 90ish temp they mention is when the CPU will shut down completely to protect itself.
The one true program for reading CPU status is AMD Overdrive which gives the thermal margin (degrees left to max, i.e. decreases as cpu temp goes up). OTOH, I do use HWmonitor with that system and it's ok once it heats up.
I don't remember which cooler I have on the 955 but the EVO should do the trick especially with 2 fans on it.
socket is under the cpu socket, can be 10-30c lower than the core temps
some of those am3 cpus needed an offset to get the real temp
