cpu too hot?
i have been reading that amd phenom 2 x4 965 shall operate below the value of of 62°.
i have it under 100% load now and coretemp shows 66°C for the cores of the cpu. hwmonitor has a value for the CPU(55°C) and a value for each core (66°C).
is my cpu too hot?

Nope. 95°C and higher is actually the threadhold for most CPU’s. The readings you’re getting are pretty nominal operating temperatures.

95°C for the cores or for the sensor on the motherboard?
You can get the answer from Google, cpu too hot?

Some games may be CPU dependent while others are RAM or GPU dependent. ... No matter the case, a CPU temperature should play around 75-80 degrees celsius when gaming. When the computer is doing small processes or in an idle state, it should be around 45 degrees celsius to a little over 60 degrees celsius at most.Aug 3, 2018

i cant find it right now, but i know for sure, that 62°C is the highest temperature for the cpu to run well, as amd said.(for my 965 phenom).

on this website the 62°C max opaerational temperature is shown.(you have to search a little. scroll down to "specifications")

Then you literally have nothing to worry about :lunar2019coolpig:
Imho, it's too hot and with summer temp fluctuations it's too close to the limit.

On mine I had a cheapo hyper 212 plus on it idled 27c, p95 load 47c, gaming 40-43c.

Ps, besides if your monitor reads over 66c you're over the threshold.

hwmonitor reads 2 temperatures: 55°C for cpu and 66°C for the cores. the cpu doesnt throttle then
Get rid of core temp uninstall it reboot pc, install the latest hwmonitor.

I've always gone by cores for temps.

Older CPUs like am2/2+/3 tend to get flakey around 56- 58c amd likes cold .

If you're happy running at 66c go a head enjoy.

This is correct. My 955 would start having "issues" when the temp got into the 60s.
It's important to note that AMD cpus don't actually have temp sensors. It's a calculated temp and why idle temps are useless info and any temp reading below 50ish is just really rough guess work. The 90ish temp they mention is when the CPU will shut down completely to protect itself.
The one true program for reading CPU status is AMD Overdrive which gives the thermal margin (degrees left to max, i.e. decreases as cpu temp goes up). OTOH, I do use HWmonitor with that system and it's ok once it heats up.
I don't remember which cooler I have on the 955 but the EVO should do the trick especially with 2 fans on it.
i just installed amd overdrive and the cores show 27,5°C each. and a "TMPIN1" shows 36 C°. btw coretemp shows 41 °C. hwmonitor shows 35°C for the cpu and 40° C for the cores. this is confusing. i guess amd overdrive is the softwre to trust, as LiMpY wrote...

are you looking at the socket or core temp?
socket is under the cpu socket, can be 10-30c lower than the core temps
some of those am3 cpus needed an offset to get the real temp

Running too many temp programs buggers it up even more, pick one uninstall the others.
