Used 980ti vs 1070 in 2019
I'm building a cheap 1080p/1440p pc for my friend. It has ryzen 2600 inside, B450 MSI Tomahawk, 16gigs of 3200MHz RAM but it's still missing GPU. Budget is low so I decided to get him used GPU. And what should I get him? 980Ti Gigabyte G1 or MSI Gaming with 3 months warranty or 1070 Asus Strix without warranty? 980Ti's are 40$ cheaper. 980ti after good OC is on pair with overclocked 1070ti. Maxwell aged pretty well from what I saw. What should I get?

I still rock my 980Ti AMP! Omega cards.

Their warranties lapsed about 6 months ago, but they still work great, like the day I got them. Both cards are in towers with great airflow/ventilation. When gaming the cards don't break past 70C.

I can overclock the crap out of them, too. If saving a few bucks is necessary, I see no reason not to pick up a 980Ti.

Either card is fine, I would go with the more modern 1070.

Also check out the Vega 56, these cards perform slightly better then the 1070 and are quite affordable.

It's hard to find Vega here..
As a guy who just replaced his GTX 980TI the one thing I'd note is that it runs warmer than a 1070 so if your case has poor airflow, you'll have it running slower.

I would go for the gtx 1070 if i could pick it up personally and test if it actually works.

If you can save a few bucks the 980ti still keeps up with the pack just fine

I watched that video earlier. I really like the look of 980Ti G1 (propably the last great Gigabyte's card). As I said Overclocked 980Ti is on pair with 1070Ti OC https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-gYQJKkfiYM
I found one with 4 months of warranty left in great condition and 50$ cheaper than 1070 Strix. Should I get it?

As long as the seller is reputable, and wasn't used for mining or pushed OC too far that's a great deal, I probably would.
