i think you are right. this "32gb-talk" is not for gamers...i dont know what software needs 32 gb and more ram.

I'd love to hand your 2 cents back to you. ;)
Joking apart, I have a ton of games, which exceed my 16GB limit.
And you've to keep in mind that around 4-6GB are reserved for your OS which means that your game can't exceed 10GB of RAM, which is too low for AAA games an 1440p/4K resolution.

Speaking of Cyberpunk, MSFS2020, RDR2 and so on.Not even starting about modded games like Minecraft, Cities Skylines and you name it.
I've got an average 16-20GB RAM usage on those games after a few hours. Not even speaking about the Vram usage on my 3090.........

You're absolutely fine with 16GB of Ram on a 4-6 year old GPU but those blockbuster games on high resolution and maxed out settings are hungry as hell and you'll need 32GB for sure.

And to answer OPs question, 2 sticks are always better than 4 when you're into overclocking. Electronics wear off with time and you don't want that extra headache.

A good motherboard should have no problem handling 4 sticks of Ram. They come with better controller and everything. 4 Ram sticks look better especially with matching RGB.
Quad channel memory has wider bandwidth. That's why all HEDT platforms have quad channel. But it doesn't matter unless you are running a server. Dual channel is enough for everything.
People saying that 16gb is enough for everything must just not use much, don't multitask and do not play demanding games really at all. That's all there is to it.

Bingo.

16GB is still plenty for MOST things, but 32GB is quickly becoming the norm just like 16GB currently is and 8GB was a number of years ago.

As games get more demanding so do the requirements. If 32GB is an option theres no reason not to go for it.

I forgot to mention I already have 32 GB of ram I was thinking of upgrading to 64 GB of ram lol.

Do you have a need for it?

Do you not need it it but "just want it anyway"?

Either is a legitimate reason, but games aren't going to utilize it. 16 GB is already enough for most games, and 32 GB presently gives more than enough extra for the ones that can use more.

Also, with higher capacity RAM (which I'd say is 64 GB and greater), you maystart finding your options are far more limited, probably more so on DDR4. This would especially apply if you were to try and accomplish getting 64 GB with just two modules by getting a pair of 32GB modules. I noticed when I was buying a couple years ago, the RAM I had chosen differed if I were to get it in two module count as it was only offered with slower timings (CL18-22-22 instead of 16-18-18). So there's a chance you might end up with slower RAM options for extra capacity, which, if you don't need it, means you could actually end up spending for a (albeit it very slight) downgrade. But I'm not sure what RAM you have now, what type you're looking at, and what your budget is.

Same here. 14GB VRam-usage / 16GB Ram-usage even with rBar.

Youll get easily up to 25-30GB Ram usage with some open tabs and Netflix on the side while gaming.

Yes,that's what I'm talking about.
32 GB are the 16 GB of today. My 3090 doesn't support RBAR and therefore needs even more system memory.
I'm using around 20 GB on MSFS2020.

Who knows.Give it a few more years and we're possibly speaking about 64GB being the new standard.
