You don't really need to use ShutUp10 though if you would install Win10 or 11 PRO. Then anything ShutUp10 can do, plus more, can all be done yourself through Group Policy. You can also Pause Windows Updates for a period of time instead of turning it off entirely. Just be sure to disable anything in the OS to do with SMB, Peer-2-Peer (P2P) as well as Windows Updates Networking Sharing.
Went back to Windows Update to see if I'm finally up to date, and see this, for the bazillionth time:
"There were some problems installing updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help: (0x80004005)"
I guess I should search the web for that error.
If updating your Win10 version/build via Feature Update; such as 21H2, its better to just make a fresh USB flash drive via media creation tool. When done, run SETUP.EXE from the usb drive. This will do an in-place upgrade to the newest version of Win10.
Run all of these, 1 after the other
sfc /scanow
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
If you had any Corruption/missing data it should get fixed
I looked up the error and a MS forum mod solution had me up til 2:30 AM trying to do it -- involved the command line.
This only worked in Safe Mode for me -- well, renaming the Catroot folder did anyway. the SoftwareDistribution folder does not exist at all.

Also dug into the System32 folder to verify -- I assume Windows just made a new Catroot folder, but the one I renamed Catroot.old is still there, and there's also another folder named "CatRoot", which contains similar folders to the .old one, but with different "modified" dates, dating back to 2019. The .old folder's folder's are dated sometime in 2020. The new one is dated yesterday.
I don't know why there's a different CatRoot folder with different capitalization.
Also there is an error log text file (dberr.txt) in Catroot that contains this:
...with that last entry repeated about 200 or so times.
If that rings any bells? It's Greek to me other than it's errors.

Do I need my Windows Bitlocker code for this? If so, I can only try this at the end of June, as I just got a new phone number yesterday (switched my Boost Mobile to a better tower network, but had to change numbers to do it), and MS account security won't let me see the Bitlocker code for exactly one month after I changed the 2FA security to the new number.
Running sfc now.
DISM (CheckHealth) says "No Component store corruption detected."
DISM (ScanHealth) got to 66.5% and stopped running.
DISM (RestoreHealth) got to 41.4% and stopped running.
Same exact error messages.
Looks like I'm stuck, so I'll go buy a USB stick and try Bad's next step with the MS Media Creation Tool. Checked a few sites and it doesn't look like I'll need my Bitlocker code.
I appreciate the help.
Their intentions are good but most of their options cant be re-enabled, even if it tells you so.
Youll laugh if I tell you how many PCs I had on my desk where people totally ruined their operating system with this kind of tools and of course WITHOUT a backup. ^^ (Talking OS backup)
Your only choice if dism/sfc doesnt work´, is a clean install. You could also do a factory reset if you dont have a backup, which I hope you do.
Nobody should use a PC without one.
edit: That being said, you want more privacy ? Switch to Linux.
There is no other option, believe me.
But honestly I would never suggest moving to a new build of Windows through Windows Updates. It is better and safer to do that after making a fresh USB Flash Drive using the Media Creation Tool. Long as it was made recently it will have the latest build of the OS you chose to put on it. Once this is made, keep it as you can use it on any system. It not only allows to do an in-place upgrade to that latest build within an older Win10 build such as yours, but also allows you to boot to it and do a clean install if ever needed.
At this point a clean install sounds like your best bet if your System Restore Points are too old.
Well, something similar happen to me. why? because l am using this stuff and secdvr disappeared, so l had to install it again and l do it. Well, some of the services doesn't exist, but l don't need them anyway.
Well, l suggest to use this build which is the stable in your experience.
Regardless, I'm done with the program entirely now, and off on my quest to fix my install without having to freshly install windows from a blank drive.
I don't have anything I really *need* that isn't also downloadable, but it's a pain in the butt doing all that, and is only a last resort.
I'll be doing the Media Creation Tool technique next.
I just need to discover if I need my Windows Bitlocker code or not. If I do, I'll have to wait a month to find it, as I explained above.
