USB Gamepad not recognized by Windows 10

A few weeks ago I bought a dualshock controller so I could play games with it. It's not an official Sony one, but it works pretty good and Ive never had issues with it until now.

When I use the controller with bluetooth, it works perfectly fine. I can connect it to steam and play with it like that. However, when plugged in via USB, windows says it doesnt recognize the device and it doesnt work. The reason I use it with a USB like this is to play games that arent on steam. It worked perfectly fine until a few days ago.

One thing I think may have caused this was that the Controller would identify itself as an audio input/output when plugged in, so I used devices manager to disable that feature. Maybe that did something? I dont know

If anyone can help, I would appreciate it greatly

PS4 controller. It's an offbrand/generic one though.

Idk if this is the exact one but I remember it being called "Doubleshock" when I unboxed it lol

I would return that. It's a chinese knock-off.

What you can try is this though...
Disable the BT.
Plug the DS4 controller into PC via USB data sync cable.
Then install app called DS4-Windows. It will install a proper emulation driver for the controller.
Have DS4-Windows "Start with Windows"
Do not have any Game Clients (such as Steam) set to "Start with Windows"

is it a sony dualsense or dualshock4 controller? or off brand?

Unfortunately I can’t return it since the packaging has long since been destroyed. The controller itself works fine it’s just this specific issue that’s been irritating. I’ll try this when I can though, thank you

Ikr, though it feels weird holding it because it feels pretty okay in terms of quality besides the fact it refuses to ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ work with a USB cable

You sure the cable is data sync and not charge only?

See if it pops up in Device Manager as soon as you plug it in via USB cable. Unpair it from BT first though.

It is. I was using it to play games via USB pretty recently since some games dont work with BT. When plugged in it usually registers as a device but now it says its unknown/unrecognized. Windows says the device has malfunctioned. This has literally never happened until a few days ago for some reason

Could be simply broken now. Wouldn't surprise me if a cheap knockoff has shoddy quality control or bad design.

BT also has nothing to do with your games. If the controller connects ok to BT and is seen properly in JOY.CPL and perhaps in Steam BPM, then any game that supports a controller shouldn't have any issues.

Issues with BT mainly have to do with the wireless signal and the battery % level

I think the controller is just busted or needs a new USB. I factory reset my PC and its still doing the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stupid "does not recognize controller". Im just going to buy a new one when i can and probably run this thing over so that it gives me at least some amount of joy

Go buy a non-junk controller. It's probably dead. Again its a cheap chinese knock-off.

I'd recommend to return with in 30 days.

By my personal opinion with experience, genuine DualShock 4, DualSense 5, Switch ProCon are well worth for the price.

(I doubt a bit for Xbox Series S/X controller though)
