What happens if FedEx loses an RMA?
I had to send a processor back to AMD. AMD sent me a shipping label and I mailed it off. Anyone know what happens if FedEx loses the package on the way to AMD?

You contact one who created the label (In this case AMD), they will then report the package as missing upon which FedEx will start an investigation.

If you did send it the package should have been labeled as "Recieved" in FedEx's tracking system, this is all the evidence they need to prove you did in fact send it.

If FedEx is unable to find the package they will reimburse you the insured amount declared on the label.

At least that is how we do it in the EU.

In that rare event, you would file a claim against FedEx. Hopefully, you still have a receipt for your AMD purchase. You should have a tracking ID number--follow the package's progress. It should only take a few days at the most.

I would be more worried if AMD claimed there was damage in transit than an outright loss.

If the company you returning it to provided the label then the package should be insured by them. In this case, AMD.

If you do an rma and you are responsible for paying a company to ship it; FedEx, UPS, USPS; etc. Then be sure to pay for insurance just in case the package is lost/stolen.

USPS I have used many times and didn't have any issues. Doing RMA return on my own and printing out label from EVGA with RMA# on it. But it wasn't pre-paid by EVGA so I had to pay to return it. 5-7day standard shipping + $500 insurance was around $30 total. But that was before COVID days + inflation, so IDK how much it is nowa days.

It was a pre-paid shipping label from AMD. I don't know how much they insured it for.

Then AMD would cover it. Just be sure to keep your FedEx tracking #

As long as the tracking shows you handed it over, you're safe.
If FedEx lost the shipment, that is their problem, not yours.

I've been with FedEx for about 6 years now, if the tracking shows that you handed it over to FedEx, AMD still should ship you a replacement, but I can't speak for them though. Best to contact AMD, send them the tracking number and let them know whats going on just in case, You can even contact the last place the label was scanned, and someone there could possibly look around and find it.

AMD should still honor you RMA though, AMD should know that you can't always rely on shipping companies and things happen, and thats part of the reason why FedEx and other Shipping companies scan everything multiple times.

Good Luck!

If a company like AMD, Amazon; etc. are sending you a pre-paid Shipping Label, they automatically receive the tracking number on their end anyways since it's a label for a package to be sent out.

I once sent an article back to Amazon, they've provided the shipping label.

According to the tracking the article was delivered, according to Amazon they are still waiting on receiving it.

Well, two weeks later i've opened a support chat and they've reimbursed me completely.

FYI, officially they are still waiting on receiving the article, they've never closed the return ticket.

This, except for the last part. You can not claim because you didn't purchase the shipping. FedEx will only talk to AMD, who did. AMD should give you a full refund or a replacement CPU and they would normally do that before there is an investigation.

Don't know about the US, but if this were in the UK, if AMD provided the shipping label, pre-paid, the contract is between AMD and Fedex to resolve, you have no liability. If you had purchased the shipping the contract would be between you and Fedex to resolve and you would be liable for reclaiming the loss from Fedex if the package was insured or included compensation.
