i7-6700k overclocking qestions
I have a i7-6700K on a Gigabyte Z170 gaming 7 mb and am considering overclocking it to 4.5ghz. I currently have a Cooler Master 212X dual fan. I play at 1080pi resoultion with a GTX 1070. Would I see any real benifits of overclocking my CPU from its' stock frequency? Secondly what would be the best coolerr to help keep my CPU temps in check? I'm considering getting either a 120mm or 240mm AIO for my system to help combat the added heat the overclock would introduce. Also does anyone have any experience overclocking this cpu on this mb? If yes what would your best advice be to help achieve a stable overclock. I know that it's going to partily boil down to the silicon lottery that will determine how far I can push it.

You definitely would. 6700K is quite slow at stock speeds.
The 212X should be good enough cooler to do that with.

Just look up OC guide for your Motherboard; not hard to OC at all.
But yes that cooler should do fine. AIO would be a waste on that CPU, they don't even get hot; not like 8700K

I’d knock it down to 4.4GHz for CPU intensive games (from personal experience) to ensure stability.

As long as stable, the clock speed is irrelevant.
Clock it as high as the cooling will allow; while keeping the VCore below 1.4 range.
While also keeping CPU Temp *C under 90*C at any given time.
Disable the Turbo.

As bad motha says, just take your time and find what your cpu can handle, most 6700k's should be able to get 4.6 or 4.7 at least, just keep voltage under 1.45 to be safe (1.4 really but there is wriggle room if temps are good), and as long as temps stay under 90 during testing, you are all good, as the chip is still within its safe operating range.

I would suggest updating to latest BIOS revision as well, as this can help plug some security holes with Intel platform; help bring stabilization to the system overall; and possibly even more actual options within the BIOS itself, helping with OC'ing overall as well.
