To be fair, even from a security standpoint - you should consider upgrading the operating system.

Starting on January 1 2019, Steam will officially stop supporting the Windows XP and Windows Vista operating systems. This means that after that date the Steam Client will no longer run on those versions of Windows. In order to continue running Steam and any games or other products purchased through Steam, users will need to update to a more recent version of Windows.

And Counter-Strike won't work without Steam.

Based on his screenshots, I'd imagine CS:GO.

There's no shots of the original CS, which while not a 100% indicator, is a fair indicator when there's shots of other games anyway. https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198124528099/screenshots

Why would you even want to use Windows Vista now anyway?

Just upgrade free to win 10

Put Ubuntu on it or another GNU/Linux distribution.

Just clean install Win10 64bit
Download it from MS and create your own bootable usb flash drive.
Wipe C Drive clean with it via bootable media after you created it.

Unfortunate that win10 will not register with Vista keys otherwise I would also recommend that, otherwise you have to deal with the unregistered watermark (painful IMO) - so have to agree the best non-cost option would be getting linux on there.

I do all my gaming on Linux, ultra settings, 1440p ultra wide.

A huge amount of non-native games run just fine through Steamplay/Proton.

Why does that matter? Its free to use for everyone, unless you want Microsoft Store access.

The watermark triggers my OCD, definitely unbearable on HTPC trying to watch 16:9 movies (barely acceptable in letterbox, where it does not interfere with the movie as much). I guess it all depends on your tolerance for gaming with it.

I will agree that windows supports much more games overall, however once you get old rigs refurbed that are dual-core / 4gb ram windows 10 is not really an option where linux will shine - have quite a few 1st gen dual-core and core2 rigs still chugging along - perfect for old source games like CSGO and similar.

I think the first step is getting users who are only used to running windows to even try out linux, can be a very slow and painful process unless they are really dedicated to the task despite being much, much easier these days with modern linux installers.

Everything that it appears to lock (Watermark, Wallpaper, etc) you can change; its a simple change in the registry, google it. The only thing that you can't do without activated Win10 is the Microsoft Store.
