Buying new PSU, can I use the same cables if it’s the same Power Supply?
My PSU is going bad so I am buying the same model as my old one and was wondering if since it’s the same PSU do I need to remove all the cables and put in new ones or can I use the same cables as my old power supply and just switch out the PSU?

Use the cables which come with your PSU.

The manual of modular PSUs warn against using other cables.

Thank you, so even if they are the same cables and the same psu, change them out?

If it's the exact same model of PSU you should be fine reusing the cables.

You can use cables from the same model PSU, but I wouldn't recommend using cables from different PSUs. Not all cables are the same and can be wired differently.

Thank you for the replies! It’s the exact same PSU, I was just wondering if I could just switch out the PSU without taking all the cables out of the PC.

If its the same model and pin out you should b e fine, I've ran evga supernova g2 850w, 1000w and 1300w psu in one system without swapping out the cables as an example.

But, I would say, why are you replacing it, psu's don't tend to 'go bad' without just going up in a puff of smoke, so the psu may not be the problem.

use the modular cables it came with

they may have the same connectors, on the psu and for devices, but the pinouts may not be the same and can kill hardware if used incorrectly

I started getting E1 errors and then now my PC will shut down randomly on boot up. Everything I’ve researched points to the PSU being on its way out.

While the error code differs from board to board, so I won't comment, but that sounds more like a loose connection or RAM issues, most of the time a psu won't start dieing, it usually works, or doesn't, with very little in-between.

The risk is that the manufacturer decided to have the cables go to different connectors. So you could end up having a 12 Volt rail going into 5 V or ground. If you really want to use old cables always measure.

I know I'm late but I want to ask, if someone was willing to sell me their old psu cables from their previous power supply they had that is the exact same as mine will that be fine?

Be very careful doing this as some power supply’s have revisions and little things can be changed and even if the same model the cables off one unit may not work on a revised unit. Found this out the hard way with Corsair .

You should always switch out the cables to be safe, don't take unnecessary risks with expensive hardware. Sometimes there are different pinouts even on the same model if it's a newer revision. Don't buy used PSUs or cables either, not worthwhile.
