Why did windows 10 suddenly install Spotify?
I mean I never use it, and now it kept appearing in my taskbar out of the blue...

Is this part of an update?

I disabled it btw, I was just curious. I don't want extra apps running without my knowledge.

It was installed in the latest update to the OS. I have it in Windows 11 as well. Just more bloatware for those of us that don't use it.

Dcp latency may fall when you disable a service but the question is does it matter. With modern hardware and a properly working Windows install the answer is basically no. Latency high enough to be an issue is usually other software, drivers, or hardware not Windows itself. Also aren't you running like 10 year old hardware? That's hardly a good reference point for gauging any kind of current OS performance. You'd get way more benefit from upgrading to reasonably modern hardware (even a prebuilt Dell) than you will ever see tweaking Windows services.

Why would you upgrade 10yr cpu if it still does what is intended but better in some ways than more modern processors? The latency cannot be beaten on modern Ryzen due to the chiplayout. Thats the only part of my setup thats old. The rest is my Ti etc and AW3423DW. It would be upgraded earlier but these are unique times and i felt and still feel it best to wait for 13th Gen and or 7800X3D.

Ill disagree on it being drivers or software too because mine doubled simply by an OS update. And ever since never been the same. To fix it you rollback or go to Win7. So its the OS its not the drivers having 25yr experience of windows ill stick to my claim its windows and Steam OS 4.0 will prove me right. Also ill disagree that it does not matter latency always matters for online games. And as for feeling it, Thats subjective i can feel 240hz some people also claim above 24fps or 60fps there is no difference its subjective. No one has ever done any indepth tests to see how it effects things like frametimes DPC latency is now where Frametimes where 5 years ago aka an unknown untested variable ignored by reviewers.

If you feel like tweaking your system to get DCP latency down from 60us to 50us is noticeable and worth while then have at it. All I'm saying is the rest of the pc world disagree, no one tests DCP latency because it doesn't matter unless it is extremely high and that usually is the result of a software or hardware issue not Windows itself. There are also benchmarks available for Steam OS and Windows 11. The difference in fps and frame times is essentially zero and Windows 11 wins if you go strictly by the numbers. It's possible Steam OS 4.0 could do something drastically different but I kind of doubt it.

You have to factor in the trouble windows causes as well. For a start the recent 2022 2h debacle leaves your games running crap until they patch it. They do this all the time you cant rely on Microsoft so Steam OS 4.0 (now 3.3) cant be worse. It will guaranteed use less ram having less stuff going on.

I have had a dislike of Microsoft ever since Windows 2000 replaced Windows XP. I had TinyXP which is a custom iso where the barebones to run games was all that it contained. In the Source engine i lost 10% of my performance in DX9 and to this day i am not aware of that ever being clawed back. I had a solid 60fps when the horde would come in L4D and as soon as i moved away from TinyXP i had 55fps and in the days of no Freesync it mattered and caused stutter. This went under the radar i formatted about 6 times and did extensive testing in the day to prove it so they can and will do it again in future. As a company they are a toxic imcompetant mess.

Bloat? With an SSD bloat goes away.
Bloat hasn't been a thing in a long time unless you use a normal harddrive for the boot drive.
"Bloat" isn't just about FPS - it's about having something installed that you do not or will never use.

Like it or not Windows has been and will continue to be the go to OS for gaming. With the Steam Deck install base you might see some developers with Linux ports but if you want to sell the most copies you develop for Windows, period.
Windows is edging closer and closer to using a Linux kernel.... even Microsoft realises that Linux is a more resource efficient OS. What we think of as "Windows" today might evolve into Windows flavour of Linux in a short timespan.
I suspect the Windows NT kernel will continue to stick around due to pressure from enterprise users.

What does a video storefront have to do with your OS? Does this mean they can install any commercial program without your consent?
