Thoughts on MSI? Nightblade MI3 8RC-023CA
Hey folks,

My laptop recently completely died on me... ASUS gaming laptop, not thrilled about it, not wanting to buy ASUS again. Currently without a gaming capable computer. I liked the laptop for the portability but did not like the overheating issues I always had with it.

I found this
https://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX72048

Which would replace my laptop and be a bit of an upgrade, looks to be upgradable in the future too, and small enough that I could travel with it if need be (My portability needs would mean taking it with me on plane travel to a remote location where I spend a week about once every 3 months or so)

My concern with something so small obviously is heat, packing that much power into a small chassis I worry about the longevity. Can anybody attest to the quality of this or a similar model?

Thanks

There are few things not so good about this build, the VRAM of the GTX 1060 is only 3GB apose to 6GB. And the RAM is slow and small only being 2400MHz and 8GB (Should try to aim for atleast 16GB 3000MHz) Plus a SSD that is 128GB is very small for your games.

Here is a build that is a simular price you should look at:

Only has 240GB SSD but you can always get more later down the road, the RAM speed is 3200MHz and 16GB, the graphics card has 6GB of VRAM, still a small size case without overheating. CyberMonday near the end of November is coming up for sales so you could get a few of the parts cheaper. Plus this i5-8600K CPU is unlocked so if you ever down the road want to overclock you can with the beefy CPU cooler I added in the list. (One of the best you can buy, you wont regret it.) You could save by just getting 8GB of RAM and get the other 8GB later but something to consider.

(You could choose not to buy the 280mm CPU liquid cooler and just not overclock in the mean time to either get a i7-8700K CPU instead or just to save money. You'll need to get atleast a cheap $15 CPU cooler as something temporary. Either way, just an option to think about!)

Well I have only had one laptop from MSI, the GT72VR Dragon Edition. I’ve had a lot computers for multiple reasons, I like to upgrade every once in awhile and I like to try different brands. So far this MSI has treated me extremely well! I’ve had this laptop since it released and I’ve never had an issue, it’s a very strong and consistent performer. To be honest this is the best computer I’ve had so far, literally the only thing that is a little annoying is that it’s kinda heavy. Other then that there’s nothing, I’ve been playing every single game on max settings and there’s no overheating. I usually reach about 170 degrees Fahrenheit on the GPU after gaming for about 5 or 6 hours.
