M.2 SSD Compatibility
For the HP Elitebook 840 G1 laptop I want to add an M.2 SSD for more storage and also use it to boot up Windows 10 faster. I wanted to know if a Toshiba THN-RC10Z2400G8 would be compatible, even though it is an NVMe. Here is a compatibility list I found that says 2242 size works but under SATA and not under NVMe. https://www.mydigitaldiscount.com/m.2-ngff-ssd-compatibility-list.html

I found a archived forum of other's with the same laptop trying to do the same, I doubt this M.2 would work but just wanted to see what you thought. https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebooks-Archive-Read-Only/Confused-Elitebook-840-G1-and-the-SSD-m-2-slot-42mm-SATA-or/td-p/5085271

(I'm aware a Transcend TS128GMTS400 would work since it is SATA III but its 128GB for the same price as it would be to get the 240GB Toshiba THN-RC10Z2400G8)

M.2 is not really the question; the question is NVMe mode vs SATA mode
If the M.2 slot only supports SATA mode, then don't waste money on an NVMe SSD type

Ssd or sata is the format it would say nvme support otherwise
Yes that M.2 Slot supports sata mode only.
For that I'd look at SSDs from Crucial, WD, Samsung
Such as Samsung 860 EVO M2
Thanks for the help everyone, I think I will go with a TCSunBow M.2 SSD 120GB. Really glad I was shown the max supported is 120GB, almost bought 240GB.
