I need help, I messed up my msconfig

So for some reason I read an article that changing the number of processors in msconfig boot advanced option would boost my pc performance. I changed it from 1 to 4, and all the sudden my pc runs like complete crap! I have 16 gb of ddr3 ram, gtx 970 4gb, and an i5 4460. I have run all games like a charm at full settings 60 fps but ever since that i cant even run half life 2 at 480p! I changed it back to normal but it still runs bad, is there a way to set it to defalt or any way to fix it? plz help me

That should teach you to never EVER do this "make my PC faster" crap again, it doesn't work it's all clickbait and idiots.

If this "guide" made your download anything or run any commands in the CMD/Powershell you may very well have downloaded malware on your PC, run Malwarebytes if it did.

What you will have to do is go back to that guide and use that to revert everything back to default. If you can't get it fixed you will be looking at a clean installation of Windows.

Never change the # of Cores or Memory; this is there for a Legacy OS that has issues with such things. For example I can boot and use WinXP just fine on a modern PC, however because that PC has more installed RAM than a 32bit OS supports, it is best to then force the OS to only look at what is supported. When I reboot and select say my Win7 or Win10, or even Linux Drive to boot from, I never have to worry because those OS fully support my installed RAM. So this is why you would perhaps limit an OS via MSCONFIG.

Simply go to Windows either Normal Mode or Safe Mode; which ever way you can get in.
And re-run MSCONFIG and revert the changes. Not hard to do at all. If you changed anything for Processors or Memory, completely un-check those boxes and click OK out of both windows, then Restart Windows to apply.
