Motherboard/ BIOS not supporting new (gtx 1060 6gb) GPU, any tips?
Hi folks,

So years ago I made the mistake of buying a prebuilt Medion PC, as I've learned they blacklist or at least stop offering support for newer GPU's after release. There's simply no BIOS update to be found anywhere. Motherboard model is MS-7728, current BIOS version is (American Megatrends Inc.) E7728MLN.30E, release date 3/19/2012.

I've googled around a lot but to no avail. Does anyone know if there is any solution to this?

Thanks for reading!

Motherboards do not support any specific series of GPUs, motherboards do not require BIOS updates to work with a GPU.

As long as your motherboard has a PCI-e slot it should work.

I with that was true, but it isn't. Trust me, I've been spending hours on the interwebz and a lot of people are reporting the same problems. All of them come down to the same issue; motherboard / bios incompatibility towards newer GPU's. A lot of them involving the 9 series, now even more with the 10 series.

Ok, you are partially correct, it appears that Medion likes to vendor lock their motherboards. So it's not a compatibility issue the motherboard firmware simply refuses to work with non Medion approved hardware.

There is an unlock BIOS available but BE WARNED! This is community made stuff so you may very well risk KILLING you motherboard.

So instead of getting a new GPU get a whole new PC, play on the APU if you have to as a placeholder for a GPU. No prebuilds.

Found that too, but the file provided there isn't available anymore :(

Any other options?

Getting a new PC, this machine is at least 6 years old anyway. It will probably not do to well even with a half decent GPU.
Old thread but im wondering did you flash BIOS sucessfully?
Because i want do it with mine MS-7728 too
Have you tried with the same brand of video card? My mom's Medion PC videocard died once and they replaced it with a newer one.
bios doesnt show what gpu you have

many old oem boards do not have an updated bios to support the 1xxx series or newer gpus

Look on the card itself.

A 1030 works fine on a 2009 HP mobo, so i doubt that.

Guys i have ms-7728 too and MSI R9 270 working fine on that mobo without flashing BIOS and similar. Its all default only BIOS is to latest version. But, my Powercolor r9 270 not working while MSI r9 270 working. I guess MSI MEDION only works for MSI models of graphics idk... So i wanna mod BIOS too so my powercolor model start working.

A lot of truth in this, the cpu/chipset bottlenecks would probably negate the gains from that rockin' video card.
