Need an IT Nerd :D
HI!
So...I've been trynna learn this on my own but my lil' ADHD brain actually shrivels up and dies anytime I read any IT based articles....
My computer has been running really slow lately and I've been making sure to regularly clean it and stuff... I'm starting to think this has something to do with upgrades i need to make that I have no idea what to do and AHHHH.

If someone would be willing to chill with me in a discord chat, pop up some lo-fi or jazz or whatever you want to vibe with while i show you my screen and you help me out and stuff....Please contact me!

If I get multiple people asking I might ask to do a introductory call first just to see if we 'gel', 'cos I'm a huge ball of Anxiety and will A. feel bad about telling someone I already have help and shooing their generosity away B. if the person i accept to help me ends up being a total jerk I'll most likely just sit with it and bare through it but none of the information will have gone in my head at all.... and C. 'cos it'd be better for us both if we got along! That way it's vibes all way round :D

Please and Thank you! <3

Use at least one SSD.
Have at least 16GB system RAM installed.
Do a clean install of Win10 21H2 or newer or latest Win11 22H1 or newer.

For those looking to refresh their Win10 USB Flash Drive or add to their ISO collection; Win10 22H1 comes out April 13

As someone else with anxiety issues, especially in larger groups of people, I can tell you that you're better off not going about it by looking for a one on one help session, and instead simply presenting your issue.

This would be better not only for the sake of avoiding needless complexity and uncomfortable interactions, but also for the sake of increasing your chances of getting help. One persons input is just one perspective, but on an open forum like this, input to open to be addressed if others so choose to, for whatever reason. So you increase chances of getting more and better help this way.

To the point, what we have is that your PC is performing slowly. Clarification on this would help greatly. Is it slow to start up? Slow in games? Slow when just using to browse Windows or, say, the web? there's a difference. A PC can have poor specifications for a given game but otherwise operate very fast, and likewise, a PC with great hardware with, say, malware can bring a miserable experience. So clarification of slowness is a great starting point.

List your hardware specs as well. If you don't know what they are, you can

Hey! Thank you, seriously... Like.. I honestly freeze up so much whenever I post on steam and I feel so wooden. Your answer has me feeling incredibly comfortable at the moment so I really appreciate your straightforwardness and understanding.

Okay so, that makes a lot better sense.. I didnt know at all how to go about this. I'll post up my specs soon as I'm currently not home. But I can go into more detail about the issues, which are as follows:

-Slow start up. I find that it can take up to 3minutes sometimes for the system to be fully awake.

-Slow in general. Sometimes when I click to open an app it'll take a long ass time to actually wake up. I have a particular problem with opening Overwatch, I find I have to decide the moment I turn on my pc if I want to play it on that session or not, because it'll only open if I go to run the app after my pc has finished starting up. If I try to run it any other time beyond that it'll show up as running in task manager and all but no window.
To be clear, stuff like binding of isaac works fine. As you've said, it could be lack of specs for bigger games. My Web is super slow too, it feels like Im waiting for a wrinkle to pop up when waiting for a Google search to load.

-A couple of my drivers refuse to update. This is why I suspect I need an upgrade in my system. Its the um... Display adapters and Sound.. I think, I'm going purely off memory here but Display adapters is 100% accurate.

-This isn't a 'problem' per say. It really isn't, just a commodity though it may be assisting towards my system issues I'm not sure... Basically, Windows 11 has tried updating but it says my pc is missing some key components.

-Final issue but definitely not the least... I have network issues. I cannot connect it to my router via ethernet cable, before you ask. My router is in the corridor and won't move from that spot. Our WiFi in general kinda sucks because of our location but my pc acts like a picky child when it comes to broccoli, the broccoli being my WiFi. It's like... Always on one bar or something and if i run an online game it'll start playing ping-pong with the WiFi, connecting and disconnecting and even when it's connected it isn't particularly strong. This is one of my biggest issues and my friend has suggested I get WiFi amplifiers around the house to boost the connection so I'm gonna give that a try when I can afford it. 😅

Anyway, those are all my issues.

My current care routine includes regular cleaning and only keeping 1 to 3 tabs open at a time. I dont know much else to do with my lack of knowledge, It physically hurts me when I try to read articles with all the weird letters and number names for things... It makes no sense to me whatsoever. Kudos to you all that know how to do this stuff.
My pc was built for me by an old friend, but it's 2years old. So it's still pretty young.

I hope this large message didn't irritate you, I tried to include as much information as possible but I'll come back when I'm home and can view and post my specs.

Well I think "geek" is better word than "nerd" in area of IT.

I dunno I always preferred nerd, because of Revenge of the Nerds.

But I think I might be in a minority. Either way, no accounting for taste.

I like both 😂 also Nark and Dork.

But I did learn from a young age that theres a big difference between looking up 'Geek Girls' and 'Nerd Girls'. The first one would give you hot collage girls in glasses and the second one would be highschool girls in headgear braces and scrunchies. 😂 No idea if that's still the Google search results today but it was that way nearly a decade ago now.
Okay yeah, I defo prefer just staying in here rather than one on one's , idk why I didn't think of that before... 🤦🏻

Can you go to https://www.userbenchmark.com/ and do their free download thing then run it/follow directions and when it opens the page in your browser can you take that address in the browser for your results and put it here?

Avoid this. You do not need to download bloatware to get hardware information and the metrics provided by userbenchmarks are as worthless as they get.

Assuming Windows, DxDiag is a default Windows app that gives you the bulk of the system information that is of importance, with the Task Manager/Properties displaying model numbers and various other hardware information.

Most of your issues hint at slow storage, lack of memory (RAM) and possibly file corruption. Poor CPU performance can have an impact on access times, but more system information needs to be provided before that can be assessed.
Yeah, if the PC is only a couple of years old, it's unlikely to be acting that sluggish from lack of RAM or a slow system storage drive, at least as far as the slowness within Windows. The startup being many minutes is a bit suspect though, as I've had all of my systems in the past two decades, even those on HDDs, start faster. That being said, specifications will help here so we don't have to guess. Have you ever looked at task manager, namely the memory section of the performance tab? Knowing how much of your resources you use will help, because how much you have is only one half of the equation.

Do you ever restart your PC, or just shut it down. I wonder how much of this might be down to Windows not fully shutting down by default. For whatever reason, Microsoft changed shut down to not actually be a full closing of the OS, so some things get cached. Sometimes, issues arise, especially with drivers. it could be explaining some of your issues.

If you're truly comfortable with it, you can change this behavior of Windows to where a shut down is a full shut down[imgur.com], but if you don't want to change Windows' behavior, then just try restarting if you're not as a habit.

Unfortunately I can't help you much with the WiFi issues. This could be related to the slow response of web searches, or any online games. When my laptops WiFi capability first started getting bad, it'd connect to the network, and do general browsing fine, but just opening the client for the League of Legends client or going on YouTube would cause it to lose connection to the network shortly thereafter. Later, it would detect the network, but fail to connect, unless I am in the same room as the router. I get around that by using wires because I want the consistency. If you can't do that, I'm personally not as versed into methods you could take to improve things though.

As for Windows 11, it's most likely the things it's not finding are a TPM 2.0 security processor. If your PC is only a couple years old, it surely has the ability to do this in the CPU itself via firmware if no dedicated TPM chip is present, but if requires a certain BIOS option to be enabled that is usually not enabled by default. Again, listing hardware specifications will help answer this. If you want Windows 11, it's likely the case you just need to change a setting or two (secure boot being the other) in the BIOS.

Don't explain your issues to people without them. They won't get it.

I'm not entirely sure in what context you mean...
Backstory and personal = DO NOT DO.

What to do: get to the issue, post system specs.

If apps are taking a while to load then it sounds like an older/slower drive that could potentially turn off, depending on settings, if not in use.

Drivers refusing to install likely must need a proper wipe of said drivers or they're the wrong one for the OS etc of not a global package that'll work on basically any version of the OS.

Never start posting about performance without the specs. But definitely cut out all the "fat" from the posts.

Okay so...I don't really Restart my PC often because it does a thing where it just gets stuck on the Restart loading thingy. I just shut it down. But sometimes, only sometimes...It gets stuck on that too so I have to press the power button to turn it off.

Um... I posted the specs above that are listed in my System-About section...Let me know if I should be including more?
I have System Information up if you need more information and specs, so just let me know
Load up CMD (Run as Admin)
Type
POWERCFG -H OFF
Press Enter key
Once done restart Windows.

That should resolve the OS restart issues.

Have you done all the Windows Updates?

Have you downloaded and installed latest drivers? Such as AMD Ryzen Chipset Driver and what you need for your GPU.
That gives us what CPU, RAM amount, and Windows version you have, though that's it. it doesn't give any further information like what GPU (that CPU has no onboard video so you definitely have a dedicated one) or storage drives are in use, driver versions, specifics about motherboard, BIOS, RAM configuration , etc.

It confirms, though, what we could have guessed based on age of the system, and that is that it shouldn't be massively lacking in CPU or RAM quantity for the things you described. But, again, you might have 16 GB of RAM, but that means nothing if your workflow requires more. Have you checked Task Manager and looked at what RAM resource use was like? After all, 16 GB isn't so little that you have to limit yourself to three chrome tabs (or I hope not, I'm a Firefox user but they shouldn't be that different).

I agree with the above, and it's why I suggested it before. If you're comfortable changing that, I would do so. Though, if you're having issues with Windows loading when restarting (important distinction, restart means using the restart command and not shut down and start up) then you seem to have issues this won't help. I'd still recommend it as a start, though.
Restart in Win10/11 simply does not mean what it meant in previous OS'
Look it up if you don't know this or understand.

I mean, yes? I've said twice in this thread alone that there is a distinction between the two and have recommended OP to do it before you did as well so it should be incredibly apparent I understand this, no?
