Unless it was specifically for the wider cinema content, I probably wouldn't use a non-16:9 screen for regular broadcast content, personally. But if you want to repurpose it, there's nothing wrong with it functionally if you don't mind the above results.
If you're just doing this to find a use for it, you could sell it. It sounds like you don't have a pressing need for a screen in those rooms, or else you'd have gotten an appropriate one for it to begin with?
Me neither.
21:9 movies are a real treat on a 21:9 monitor but it isnt rly worth it for 16:9 content.
It also depends which 21:9 monitor hes using since some of them old ones dont have an OSD option for aspect ratio and will stretch the TV signal.
He could try to manually adjust ist trough receiver options but Idk if it works.
Just connect that thing to your receiver and give it a try.
I never use it as only a TV though. It; works great using the PIP and PBP function.
PIP scales perfectly to 16:9.
PBP keeps the aspect ratio correct, but doesn't use most of the upper and lower screen. Letterboxing the video without stretching anything.
If I am playing a game that is windowed or working with multiple windows, I use the PIP and ignore that corner of the screen.
For other things I used the PBP so I don't have to work about things ending up "underneath" the TV section.
Most Youtube clips are cut on the sides leaving just the middle part of the screen visible.
Personally I wouldn’t use the G9 as a TV.
Another concern is performance,im also not sure if it's worth it even on my 6900xt "5k" is slightly more easy to manage than 4k right?
The max performance of the Odyssey G9 is 5120x1440p 240hz.
You’re gonna need at least GTX 3080 Ti, if you want to achieve max performance on the G9.
So in general it's a bit easier to run than 4k. But probably not noteworthy.
As you already own a 6900xt what are you looking for? There are no better cards out there. Unless you wanna go the double GPU route.
Regarding Hz/fps you get what you get.
~80-100fps is probably in it for most AAA games at the moment.
But this fluctuates so much from Game to Game that it's barely a serious estimate.
Have fun with your new big boys toy! ;)
Hmm there are other options or this is the only big boy? Samsung have a tendency to break some leds.
