ultrawide monitor as tv???
Im seriously thinking on going big or go home by buying an Samsung odyssey g9 neo but at the same time I don't know what to do with my current uw 3440x1440 monitor,so i thinked to slap it in the kitchen/lunch-dining room and use it as a regular tv by using a dtv-2 or smart thing, but how the images will be? Everything with black bars?
Atm the programs here are just hd and even then is nothing special imo,any thoughts?

You'll end up with either stretching or cropping (on the sides) on a 21.5:9 screen displaying 16:9 content, yes.

Unless it was specifically for the wider cinema content, I probably wouldn't use a non-16:9 screen for regular broadcast content, personally. But if you want to repurpose it, there's nothing wrong with it functionally if you don't mind the above results.

If you're just doing this to find a use for it, you could sell it. It sounds like you don't have a pressing need for a screen in those rooms, or else you'd have gotten an appropriate one for it to begin with?
Try it, and see. Unless someone here has done the same your guess is as good as anyones?

Me neither.
21:9 movies are a real treat on a 21:9 monitor but it isnt rly worth it for 16:9 content.

It also depends which 21:9 monitor hes using since some of them old ones dont have an OSD option for aspect ratio and will stretch the TV signal.
He could try to manually adjust ist trough receiver options but Idk if it works.

Just connect that thing to your receiver and give it a try.
Stretched and looking all wrong, or black bars are your options. The monitor should have these options within its menu system.
I do what you are planning to do, using the same monitor with the same dimensions.

I never use it as only a TV though. It; works great using the PIP and PBP function.

PIP scales perfectly to 16:9.

PBP keeps the aspect ratio correct, but doesn't use most of the upper and lower screen. Letterboxing the video without stretching anything.
Yes if it has PIP that is a nice feature to use while using it to Display a PC at the same time. It can also be used for a Game Console via HDMI.
Yes, exactly why I decided to buy it. It gave me more options than having multiple monitors on my desk and a small foot print.

If I am playing a game that is windowed or working with multiple windows, I use the PIP and ignore that corner of the screen.

For other things I used the PBP so I don't have to work about things ending up "underneath" the TV section.
I have the Samsung Odyssey G9.

Most Youtube clips are cut on the sides leaving just the middle part of the screen visible.

Personally I wouldn’t use the G9 as a TV.

if i buy the g9 ill maybe use my iiyama uw monitor as a tv in the kitchen not gonna pay 2000 € to use it as a tv lol.
Another concern is performance,im also not sure if it's worth it even on my 6900xt "5k" is slightly more easy to manage than 4k right?

The max performance of the Odyssey G9 is 5120x1440p 240hz.

You’re gonna need at least GTX 3080 Ti, if you want to achieve max performance on the G9.
The G9 has 7.4 mil. Pixels and 4k is 8.3 mil.

So in general it's a bit easier to run than 4k. But probably not noteworthy.

As you already own a 6900xt what are you looking for? There are no better cards out there. Unless you wanna go the double GPU route.

Regarding Hz/fps you get what you get.
~80-100fps is probably in it for most AAA games at the moment.

But this fluctuates so much from Game to Game that it's barely a serious estimate.

Nothing really,i just wanted to know how much of a loss i will have with such resolution fos wise,(doesn't really matter to me that much,if it doest stutter/tear/freeze im ok with 60+ with freesync active)
If you are fine with 60+ then you are as good to go as it get's.

Have fun with your new big boys toy! ;)

16:9 was set as the TV standard. For some reason it rolled over to PCs, but there's no reason why 16:9 should be considered the PC standard. It is possible to watch films on UW, because a 21:9 is basically a cinema standard. However, you will have work with scaling to use the full display in these scenarios (maybe possible in some playback software).
