Question about CPU Temperature Tcase?
I have a question about my CPU temperature. I'm still using an old Intel i7 6700K processor. Now I have read that the so-called TCase temperature should not exceed 65 degrees Celsius. In a program called CPUID HWMonitor, I see a package temperature of 74 degrees Celsius under load when playing computer games. It is 25 degrees Celsius when idling.
Is the package temperature displayed there the TCase temperature of the processor?

TCASE

Case Temperature is the maximum temperature allowed at the processor Integrated Heat Spreader (IHS).

CPUID HWMonitor usually provides only core temperature as CPUs usually don't have additional sensors to measure the temperature of the lid.

Ah ok thanks, then 74 degrees Celsius should still be ok with the 6700k processor?

It's a little high for stock settings, but if you're using a budget cooler or overclocking then it's probably fine.

No, I don't overclock the processor, but I bought a relatively cheap cooler at the time. I just read on the internet that the CPU only starts to clock down from 100 degrees Celsius, since 74 degrees Celsius was measured under full load, I think I'm in the green.

You don't want to be anywhere near 100c. For best results a decent air cooler and a overclock would bring extra life to that CPU. It is a K and older Intels had a lot of headroom.

Tj max of the CPU is 100C , so 76C is still safe

forget about Tcase

"Tcase" (Temperature Case), this is a factory only temperature measured on the external surface of the IHS (Integrated Heat Spreader) using engineering samples

I bought the K version because these processors are suitable for overclocking. And by not overclocking the CPU, the lifespan should be longer. I am currently still very satisfied with the performance of the CPU, so overclocking would not make sense.

tCase isn't the same as tJunction, the temperature used to judge the actual maximum temperature of the CPU core. tCase is a specification for cooler manufacturers, that states the maximum temperature that Intel recommends for the integrated heat spreader (IHS). The max temp for the IHS can be 64, but the max temp for the CPU core is closer to 100.

Your temperatures are okay, but still on the hotter side if that's in gaming. I would suggest adjusting fan curve in BIOS if you haven't already, cleaning out any dust, and if all else fails, buying a beefier air cooler.
