5600 mhz ddr5 ram reporting 4800 mhz?
I got some 5600 mhz ddr5 ram recently, kingston fury beast specifically, and when I open my control panel and click on performance / memory it's saying it's running at 4800 mhz.

Is this normal or do I need to adjust something in my BIOS?

ddr speed = 2x mhz

ddr5600 should be 2800mhz

boot to bios and enable xmp/amp/docp for bios to set the ram speed, timings and voltage

Always use CPUZ to confirm anything to do with RAM. It should be shown as 2800. For the reasons explained above.

Interesting, thanks for the replies

Here's a screenshot of CPU-Z / memory, it's saying 2400 mhz

Is your RAM actually listed on QVL? Board could be ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ up XMP and you'll have to manually set the frequency, voltages, and timings.

I just checked and nothing shows up in a search on their website. I actually don't see any DDR5 ram on that site.

The motherboard is a asus rog strix z690-f

post the cpuz validation url pls

the spd tab will show the xmp profiles for each module, compare that with the mem tab to see what its actually running at

It looks like you have the DDR5-4800 profile set and not 5600.

You sure you bought 5600? Did you select an XMP profile or anything?

I haven't changed anything in bios since installing this new cpu/mobo/ram. That's why I started this thread. It looks like I need to switch to xmp 5600 profile in bios?

In order to get the 5600MHz speed you absolutely need to enable XMP profile in the BIOS.

roger that, never done this before, I will try this out in a bit thanks

yep, just enable xmp in bios for the 5600 profile
I've encountered a weird problem

I tried both restarting and shutting down my pc. I hit the del and F1 key repeatedly. Instead of showing me an asus logo all I see is a black screen. One time it started up as normal. Another time it just displayed a black screen and that's when I restarted.

I know bios can work because the first time I started up this mobo/cpu combo it prompted me to enter it and I was in.

I have my valve index unplugged from the GPU because I know it can mess with the display on startup. I don't know what else could be causing it not wanting to display before it gets to the windows loading circle before logging in.

From what i can understand from here; you cannot get into your BIOS. Before anything, try hitting keys other than F1 and see if it is possible for you to get to BIOS that way.

As far as i understand, you are a windows user. Hold shift while pressing restart on your OS; that will open up recovery options for Windows, now find the UEFI hardware settings button and click on it, that should get you into the BIOS.

I'll try the recovery method you describe here. The problem seems to be that my monitor doesn't want to display anything until I get to the windows login screen for whatever reason, even with the valve index unplugged.

Is this a prebuild like alienware? This ram is horrible slow compare to ddr4 and its only a single stick.

Try to hold down f1 or del key.
