Is it okay for my PC to be on carpet?
My PC has been on carpet since I got it. I never thought it would bother anything since my PC vents out of the side, but I heard online that setting your PC on carpet causes static. I've had few problems with my PC, but I want to keep it in good maintenance.

It vents out the side, but where does it vent in?

It's a lot filthier down on the floor than it is up on a surface like your desk. You'll be dusting it out a lot more being down on the floor like that.

Unless you're doing something stupid with your power cable, your PC is grounded via the PSU. It is perfectly fine to sit on the carpet in regards to static build up.

If your case isn't vented from the bottom (also you should make sure your PSU isn't venting from the bottom) then there isn't an issue with it being on carpet.

If you worry about that then you could get a furniture panel to put under the PC so it wont sit directly on the carpet. If the case has bottom mounted PSU then you should definitely consider it.
Personally I always keep mine on the desk.

What about the dust on the carpet . Liquid might be spread as well . I think it s not a good idea

its fine as long as the case has no intake fans on the bottom

I have mine on top of a wide wood board (slightly larger profile than the case, and approx 5cm thick) - main reasons are airflow since my PSU intake vent is at the bottom, to give it a bit of height off the floor in case of flooding, and to help with cleaning the dust from the area

What kind of "feet" does your case have? They should be plasticized or rubberized for grounding from the metallic case. I've gotten a shock from my keyboard before--your hands can build up static as well.

My machine is sitting on a furniture pouf--also with a wooden board underneath with a little clearance for the airflow. There is also a mesh dust filter there. I see occasionally where people set their machines on carpet but much more often, it's on their desks or tile floor.

If you're really worried just buy something to place it on.

My desk came with another piece of wood that I didn't fit, so it sits on the carpart and my PC sits on that

If it's just sitting there, it shouldn't build up a charge. And even if it did, proper grounding should handle it.

It won't instantly die from sitting on carpet but it may increase how often you need to clean it out.

Well it's not because of where it sits. Tell us what kind of PC it is and what problem you are experiencing because most likely it has nothing to do with carpet.

Simple answer would be: if your PSU is fan-side facing down, then you should get the Case off of any carpet. If you can't do that, at least go get a slab of wood or a couple wood 2x4 or something like that that is sturdy and flat for the Case to then sit on.

I'm not sure. How can I check, preferably without moving the PC too much?

I don't have any problems right now (knock on wood), but I've had my fair share of problems with it, like with everything else. Its fine right now.

Best thing to do is open up the side panel and look. Is the PSU drawing air in from the bottom? Where are the intake fans drawing air in from?

Even if it vents in from the front and not the bottom, you're still going to have an issue with dust eventually. What another person recommended; Using a furniture panel to get it off the carpet at least is a good idea.

It's not going to destroy your computer but enjoy cleaning out the dust ig

If you must sit it on carpet then flip the PSU around the other way so it draws air from inside your case instead of from the bottom of the case exterior.
