Nvidia or Radeon equivalent for Intel HD Graphics 630
I built a PC for my daughter which has a Coffee Lake i5-7500, and uses the integrated Intel HD Graphics 630. Many games rate their video requirements in terms of the minimum Nvidia or Radeon GPU. About where would the 630 fall in terms of comparable Nvidia GPU's, just for estimating if it can run a game? For example, would it be comparable to a GeForce GTX 750, or lower or higher? Thanks for your advice.

Maybe the lower GTX 5xx.

An AMD/Nvidia card is not required to play a game.

The Intel HD 630 is a really weak and basic display adapter and gets heavily outperformed by almost any GPU.

Maybe a AMD 43 something not enough to play almost anything. For the most part around these parts everyone says the GT1050 should be the mininum place to start. https://www.evga.com/products/product.aspx?pn=02G-P4-6152-KR

It's honestly not really comparable, because the biggest issue it faces is not having dedicated graphics memory. This means it relies on accessing the system memory, through the standard bus, along with everything else and at the speed the system memory runs at (which is not ideal).

On top of that, some features are simply not implemented in the hardware, meaning that, at best, they will have to be emulated by the CPU (very slow), when you are already slower than a dedicated solution.

For many non-demanding games the integral graphics will be perfectly adequate, but anything that is specifying the graphics requirements in terms an nVidia / AMD dedicated card is not going to run well, if at all.

Rule of thumb: if it uses 3D rendering, you're going to be mostly out of luck.

Roughly comparable to a GTX 260. Which is a videocard from a decade ago.

The i5 7500 is not a coffee lake cpu

Sorry I mistyped the cpu name. It is a Core i5-8500, which has Intel's HD Graphics 630. Z370 chipset on the MB. But I may go ahead and put a GeForce GTX 1060 in. It looks like the etherium miners have moved on to higher end GPU's and the supply of these isn't dried up and overpriced.

By all means put GTX 1060 6GB in there, Intel integrated graphics are quite weak, more like GT 740 not GTX 750.
Just make sure your power supply is good enough, 500W with one 6+2 pin PCI-E power cable at least.

Gtx 550 Ti... Overall who cares, get a Gtx 1050 2gb or better for 1080p stuff

Thanks. That's what I did. (A GTX 1060, 6Gb).

That was a great choice.

Yeah, i5-8500 is as good as previous generation i7-7700K and GTX 1060 6GB as good as previous generation GTX 980. Can run basicly everything out there on 1080p monitor.

Sure beats sand and a stick Intel 630 graphics.

You are on point with the GTX 740
