For those of you seesawing about wether to delid your expensive chip this is why you should do it. Now i didnt even use liquid metal for my repaste i use some MX-5 and didnt reseal incase i wanna use liquid metal later not even hitting 90c my fans are at 65% on my aio at 5.1ghz.
Do not use a razor like i did use a delid kit i know intel cpu’s get a bad rap for having crap tim but look at how dry and crusted that is i just posted an 1101 cinebench and still can adjust cache and some other things.

Tldr delid and get rid of intels crap paste

Use liquid metal as you need to have highest thermal conductivity between die and IHS. Also arctic silver is old and requires a curing time even if i was going to use traditional paste an MX4 or Kryonaut would be better. Also I hope you scraped off that silicon.

It was mx-4 fat fingered it and you really dont until i push 5.2 im not gonna bother highest im seeing in battlefield is about 83c at 5.1ghz ac origins was at 79c in alexandria 100% usage. Probably just gonna step down to 5ghz and enjoy the way lower temps

Didnt use a delid tool i used an old box cutter razor i had laying around and some paste i already had that cost $11 i think but i would never tell anyone to do it the way i did but you dont need liquid metal unless you got a bad chip and cant hit 5ghz

Well you can use a delis tool for multiple CPU's...

Besides that it was not an Intel mistake to use that TIM. Problem is that the old way of soldering was causing micro cracks. Using Liquid Metal in the first place was to dangerous as it isnt gatunteed to stay in place. For a normal consumer having the CPU build in it is no problem. But as for a CPU getting thrown while traveling around to the distributed and then to the stores and further it is simply to dangerous.


PS: the thing to delis is to drop the temps as good as possible. Would be a waste not to use Liquid Metal then. If you want another good drop in temperature you also replace the IHS with a pure silver or pure copper IHS.

I actually just ordered the Rockit 88 delid & Relid kit with Coollaboratory Liquid Pro for my 8700k, all I hear are positive things about delidding and with the tool it's almost fool proof.
Der (auer has a great Tool for it. But personally I would go for Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut over Coollabratory Liquid Ultra.

The thing is that the TG Conductonaut is way easier to spread while the Coollabratory is a mess even to spread on the CPU itself.

if you reseal it use black silicon glue which is thermal resistant up to 200C+. Make sure not to use a complete glue ring but to keep a little hole so that hot air can get out of the space between IHS and Die otherwise it you damage the PCB and the Die when the expendaning air (hot air) cant get out and the pressure rising.

All true, but as a consumer I just think the higher end CPUs that coat $350+ shouldn't require so much additional tinkering. All complaints aside, I will probably end up doing this with my 7700k too.

Same its kinda stupid you have to do this but its stopped my temp spikes almost conpletely just get notmal rises as usage goes up instead of crazy 20c swings. Definitely get a delid tool using a razor felt incredibly sketchy the only reason i did that is i already have my mind made up on getting an 8600k so if i broke it no biggie but now ill just stick with this until the new cpu’s come out. In ghost recon wildlands my max temp so far is about 68c for a cpu heavy game with a 5ghz overclock im more than happy with the results. Also my voltage is a little lower than before i was stable at 1.345v now im at 1.325 and it passed stress testing and several hpurs of gaming

I got the Coollabratory because it was $13 from where I got the Rockit, i was looking for TG but i'm having an issue finding it under $50 in canada.

I'm not too concerned with a bit of a mess, i'll just use tape to keep it on the die and off the PCB. I also got a tube of Permatex Ultra Black for a thin layer in the corners of the IHS.

Unless it's kapton tape you're gonna have problems when it get brittle or melts from the heat (or worse it's conductive).

What's next, are you gonna use a big old aluminium heatsink or block? (I'm being sarcastic)
