Don't up the DPI.

Yes.
I use 125% scaling. Some games detect this correctly and display everything correctly but some do not. The ones that don't you have to go in to properties and set the game to override the scaling. It's easier to do that than to have to remember to change the scaling when you are playing.

Games shouldn't need to scale for the fact that maybe you are using too high of a res on too small of a screen.

Buy a larger screen.

If people can't read everything clearly in all apps and games @ 100% DPI Scaling @ 1440p on a 27 inch screen; you seriously need your eyes checked and make some real-life decisions to correct whatever is wrong there. Below 27 inch, 1080p should be preferred choice. Or perhaps sitting too far away from screen.

High DPI compatibility should be the responsibility of the developer. If the game runs on DirectX try launching it once as Fullscreen Exclusive to trigger Windows into overriding DPI. For OpenGL or Vulkan you will still have to use the Properties to override it.

Developers should refer to https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/hidpi/setting-the-default-dpi-awareness-for-a-process for the proper way to tag their applications for High DPI support.
