New GPU is getting very hot.
I replaced my faulty RTX 2080 TI with a new one under my warranty.

The card I had before was an ASUS ROG one with 3 big fans as a cooler, also had neat looking red LEDs may it rest in peace. It never went above 73C under load at 2k max settings in games. Since the type of cooling system it had was dependent on my case air flow which is good so it never got hot.

However my replacement which I just installed is a PNY one with a blower style cooler. So has just the single fan and a whole different way to keep the GPU cool, by blowing hot air out of my cases backside.

I noticed despite having given my computer an air dust and clean while I was installing the brand new card, the temps under same load as my old card are reaching 85c-86c and its blowing so much scorching air from the cases rear end its heating up my room and my monitors DP cable was too hot I couldn't even hold it, needless to say I'm worried that its pumping this heat out so new, god forbid when it gets dusty in there in the future. Kinda put off playing a demanding game until I alter fan settings or limit its power or something to help it not melt.

So I need some tips, I think I could stick an MSI Afterburner custom fan curve on the thing but I have no idea how to do this or what a good setting would be based on my reported temps.

I doubt it matters but my idle temp is 35c so nothing wrong there, same as my original card at idle, its just under demanding games the thing goes over 10c higher than my old card and I really need to consider sorting that out or I worry my DP cable will melt or something dumb, its that hot.

and lasty its stock clock, not overclocked so its running something like 1350mhz with boost up to something like 1600mhz.

Any tips or fan curve settings you recommend?

Blowers suck and PNY is at the cheap end. You're unlucky to get that as a replacement.

As you said it's a blower fan, so It sucks air in through the back and blows the hot air into your case, nowhere near your DP cable, (not that 90c air would melt a cable anyway.)

Creating a custom fan curve with afterburner is easy, Just click on Settings, fan, then tick the box that says "Enable user defined software automatic fan control". If the noise is bearable to you, aim to hit 100% fan speed at 70c or so and you should be fine.

If the noise it too much just cap the fan speed at whatever speed sounds OK 60/70% perhaps,

I am aware, since it was given as a warrenty replacement I felt like they just threw the cheapest crap they had when I paid for the ASUS one originally. oh well.

I thought it sucks up air from my case blows it over my card and out the back, rather than sucking air in from outside the case, I read its the fan coolers like my original card had that circulate air around my case while blower coolers suck air from my case and blows it out the back, unless I read it wrong?

and I'm deaf so noise is not a concern for me, but longevity of my new card is so 100% fan won't degrade the lifespan or damage the fan in anyway over long periods right?

84c is the factory max for that card. That's the point where it starts thermal throttling.

Try a more aggressive fan curve first. Others will probably be more helpful on the specifics of that.

You could also try something like this:

https://www.amazon.com/ARCTIC-Accelero-Xtreme-IV-Cooler/dp/B08L39N8YR

Looks out of stock in a lot of places though. It's also really ugly, but those temps will be much, much better if you get your hands on one.

They're apparently good for the chip, but the HS doesn't do anything for the VRAM or VRM, since these aren't aligned in any generic way. It'll probably take some customising to get it to work properly. The other alternative is liquid cooling, but getting the plate made for that specific card may not be possible.

Nah GPU fans are “usually” rated for hundreds of thousands of hours at 100%. It works out like 24/7 for 5 years or so.

50,000 operating hours = approx 5.7 years
100,000 operating hours = approx 11.4 years

CPUs, GPUs, Motherboards are generally rated for the 100K hours
Decent enough PSUs are rated for 50K-100K hours
Decent enough Fans are usually good for 20K-50K hours

Warranty should of been through Asus and been like for like, blowers actually cool very well, they just need to be turned way up to do so, which gets loud.

Id complain tbh, they downgraded your gpu.

Am I missing something? A PNY replacement?
RMA the old card through ASUS Support & Warranty to get a replacement from them.

I did my warranty through the place I got my pc from and I no longer have the ASUS card I sent it and got this back.

I'm thinking of asking why they sent me a cheaper card, I might just do that.
Monk 29 DIC 2021 a las 7:51 a. m.
I'd straight up demand the correct card, they will send the Asus back and get a replacement Asus, you just got fobbed off with what ever they had sitting around, hell, chances are Asus would sent you a 3080 or 3080ti as a replacement not a 2080ti now.
Bad 💀 Motha 29 DIC 2021 a las 8:42 a. m.
You should have gone through ASUS directly.
But yea getting a PNY as a replacement is total BS.
Either he should give you an equal card or give the old one back so you can RMA it directly to ASUS. PNY is not "equal" its a much cheaper model; used for OEM PreBuilds.

Download MSI afterburner and you can create a custom fan profile to run fan at a faster speed when under load. This will cool it down but introduce more noise.

You can strategically set the value to max out your fan right before your GPU reaches throttle point. This way your GPU can maintain turbo boost.
