I would suggest either the last PCIE X1 slot, or the last X16 slot
Which ever it fits best in.
But yes due to the large size of the card, I would not install it too close the GPU.

The card is decent quality so as long as you using a decent quality PSU also, then having it near that shouldn't matter.

Ensure to enter the BIOS and disable the Onboard Audio.

I can't see why anyone today would buy ANY internal sound card for a PC.
Something like a USB DAC w/ AMP is a much better option and you won't have to worry about Driver issues that plague Win10/11 users when it comes to Sound Cards from ASUS, Creative; etc. And you can use the same USB DAC on a Desktop or Laptop. And they work great under Linux as well.

the onboard realtek cards are almost as good as the best creative ones now
much better than onboards from 10-20 years ago

the only real reason for one would be if you need optical or a 2nd-3rd audio capture card
(realtek onboards can be set to work as 2, one for voip and other for game/system sounds)

the sound on gpus is also very good, hdmi true audio or atmos, which optical or analog cannot let an external receiver decode

I wouldn't go that far. Anything Realtek is pure junk, even on the latest Motherboards.

true, 80% of people are deaf and won't hear any difference.

whats even the point of a sound card for a regular consumer
are you making music for a company ? do you actually need it for your job?

cause if you're just gaming and watching youtube videos they are a total waste of money.
