What is your opinion with gaming on IPS, TN or VA panels?
I had a Dell 2719 TN panel for 2 years loved it!

I my gaming area, monitor is under an overhang and it is only about 140 lux, not dark but not bright, I wonder if my TN was good because of that

I want an IPS but worry due to me not being very bright were I play

Viewing angles are no concern to me

IPS > VA > TN.
Brightness is more due to the backlight, less due to the panel.

VA's pixels are usually better at blocking light. VA monitors tend to have a higher contrast ratio because of this. IPS can be pretty weak here, which is why I still use a plasma TV

IPS better if playing area is not super bright?

There is no reason NOT to get IPS and IPS in my humble opinion are far better for everyday stuff.

Some IPS can be poor in dark rooms but you just need to read a review of the particular monitor. I have limited experience with monitors but I have tried three Dell IPS and all of them were not great in low light conditions. The Asus I tried though was superb.

get an ips you wont be disappointed, just dont cheap out.and buy a brand without
notorious back light bleed (LG im talking to you !!!) and no BLB is not the norm
i have 3 ips panels and 2 of them have zero and 1 has about 2/3% in the top right corner
barely noticeable.going from TN to IPS is like going 60hz to 144hz you can never go back.

Well, IPS, for sure. But LCD sucks in general.
r.linder 25 DIC 2021 a las 8:53 a. m.
IPS is the best all-rounder because it has great visuals like VA panels do, while being about as fast as TN panels. But you need to be careful about which specific monitor you get; some IPS panels are pretty terrible when it comes to contrast and black uniformity, and some models have higher rates of failure or other issues, so really look into user reviews before you buy a monitor.

The LG 27GL83A-B I was looking at is only 350 nits. Also thee Dell S2721DGF seems well regarded but some ♥♥♥♥♥ about colors. I think the Dell uses the LG panel

Money is no object but would like to stay under 450

@ robot pirate and eveyone in the thead---These(your) recommendations are decent and that s being friendly. You want a monitor with one main goal and thats the COLOR depth in 2021-2022 PERIOD. So What monitor can be used for GAMING and Photography ? Let me bless this thread for goodness - "smiling". Now yall you do the research please, Grab a 1440p ( pixels density is veryimpotant) , 240hz 1ms , 10 or the 12 bit monitor(s) Currently be sold by SAMSUMG or ASUS. Yea its gonna cost around $600USD - $1200.00USD "its peanuts" . Thats the best option for the best monitor - HDR is not optimal on any panel untill OLED Panels begin production into the Gaming space bywhich is like literlly next fall- Happy New Years ! REMEMBER 10-12 BIT color DEPTH high refresh monitor ONLY. Forget about HDR its in infancy stages. Look up SAMSUNGS G7 or G series for this monitor. Whne you see 10 or 12bit at 240hz on 1440p 1ms youll never go back to 8bit VA or TN or IPS panels. Samsung sells QDOT panels and they are remarkly incredible color accuracy depp dark blacks sick looking at 1440p 240hz. Got it yall. All right! Cheers!

I wouldn't pay any attention to brightness unless you know you have an issue. In most cases people end up turning down their very bright monitors. You aren't supposed to have the monitor any brighter than the surrounding room and most people at home are not in a really brightly lit room. HDR is simply not worth it with LCD.

I would watch out for Dells gaming monitors. They tend to have pretty poor contrast. There is always a compromise to be made and I guess it depends on what you think is important. The current crop of Dell IPS also tend to be a little weak on reds.

LG are good but the construction is a little lacking. Dells warranty is better.

Gigabyte are another name to consider but you know there is no substitute for money.

IPS have come along way and they aren't super expensive anymore.
Can easily get a decent IPS panel w/ 144+ Hz + DisplayPort for around $400 USD or less for up to 32 inch; up to 1440p

I think its not this easy at least for me. I play for some years on asus PG278Q TN panel. In my option it looks very good. On PG279Q release i bought this IPS panel but it looks so much worse compare to my TN. After 2 weeks of testing and hope i could get used to this monitor but i had to send it back and keep my TN.
In 3 days i get my new LG 34GP950G-B which is my next try on IPS or now nano IPS whatever. I realy hope its better then my last experiance.
