Run a server on "old" pc
Hi there,
since i have many parts lying around i thinked to use this pc as a server,
not sure what ram i have, around maybe some old 8gb ddr4 , Don t remember...does ram matter for that?

And it consume a lot to be powered?(only when i use it as a server for myself).

The end result,if i do that will have those specs:
Ryzen 5 3600
8 gb of something ram
rx 590

Also,i need to download the game in there or just some files?(old hdd)

Mainly for ark and maybe Empyrean galactic survival, tho i don't have performance issue but on ark the game run so much better on a server that i don't have to host myself on the same computer,im not sure if it's worth the hassle to put together all those things just for myself and one game.

depends on what you are serving
most games servers dont take much, can be done on a pi

file servers dont take much either, pi or many routers can do that too

steam games do not like to be on removable or remote drives
if the drive is disconnected when or after you run steam, they will not show up as installed, and steam will ask to install them again if you try to run them

Regarding power consumption, you need your server to be on so it consumes more power, even if it is on idle mode.

If not for "professional" reasons, I would advice a high capacity HDD, it will drain way less power, and you can store whatever you want.

yes
Depends on the game and the amount of players, but that should be able to handle some games that do allow it to be hosted on another machine.

I ran a Beamng drive server on my Lenovo Mini m73 with an i5 4570 and 8Gb of ram, works fine for around 8 people, I've hosted a Minecraft server for my sister and her friends on it before, worked great, but never had more than 5 people on that game at one time on it.

I really don't host games much anymore, most games now wont even let you use another machine, I ended up giving that little thing to my grandmother and just use my gaming rig and only boot like the beamng server once in a while if my friends and I play.

I just want to use for myself when i want to run Ark but ot seems doesn't worth it all things considered.

Yeah I find its not worth it much anymore, plus your current rig is probably more than strong enough to host an ark server for your self and play it just fine at the same time.
