Xbox Series X|S controller share button... via USB-C? not bluetooth? anyone any luck?
Heyo,

I think most of us who have an Xbox Series X|S controller know by now the button detects and works fine over bluetooth/etc.

However, it is also a piece of crap that can only be paired to one thing at a time (otherwise kind of a fine controller) and makes redoing the pairing for remote steam link all the time a pain in the butt.

Yeah yeah 1st world problems etc etc. Also I don't like bluetooth too much and the overpriced dongle does NOT detect the button. (very confirmed by borrowing a friend's)

Has anyone had luck getting the share button to detect over simple USB-C ?
:zagpls:

if it has usb c, it has bt
turn on the controller, hold xbox for a few seconds (slow blink)
hold ))) to put it in pairing mode (fast blink)

then go to the device you want to pair it with, and pair

to use it via usb, make sure its a usb data cable (usb symbol on usb a end) not a charge only cable (lightning bolt on usb a end)

Yeeah that does not answer the issue.

Literally Steam detects the controller in two different ways depending whether it is connected via Usb or whether it is connected via BT.

If it is connected via Steam Link or Win10 Bluetooth it detects properly and the share button exists.

Via usb it detects as a gen 1 xbox one controller. No share button.

The extra button is Useful.

Which once again misses the entire point of the question...

im not sure I understand the whole question. I only use a single controller and I have only ever used it over USB-C to Usb-A cable. The share buttons finally started working a month or two ago

Nice.

Okay. The issue is/was that the original win 10 drivers etc etc did not detect the difference between gen 1 xbox controller and the later xbox one x|s (and the elite) and so no share button.

Then the bluetooth based drivers got updated to recognize the difference.

So if you go into say Steam controller config with a usb cable it will show you an OG xbox one image and if you go in connected via BT it will show you what you actually have.

I had not checked up on whether there had been any progress Steam Side for recognition as Steam has their own device driver improvement systems.

Steam actually supports the share button if the Xbox Extended Feature Support option is activated.
