Upgraded to Windows 11, not Civ 5 won't run?
I upgraded a few days ago from Win 10 to 11. My laptop is coming up a year old. Since the upgrade, I can kick off Civ 5 and it gets as far as the 'Play' button, but then does nothing - the executeable is missing or corrupt or not enabled, I guess. Do I need to re-download the game and if so, can someone please tell me how? Many thanks

I have CIV 5 and am using Windows 11 and the game is loading and running just fine.

No need to re-download, just verify the game files.

To verify the game files right click the title in your Steam library and select properties, then local files. You'll see a verify integrity button.

To reinstall you'll need to right click and select the uninstall option, once this is done click the install button as usual.

But as Oz Gaming says try the verify option first.

This>the executeable is missing or corrupt or not enabled,<< is likely being flagged as a false positive and deleted by your AV. Add the .exe to exceptions add to windows firewall and rightclick it and run as administrator.

Wipe out your Drivers and go download all the latest ones for everything in your system and install them one by one, rebooting after each install has completed.

Users should not do an in-place upgrade to Win11 and leave the system running that way afterwards. It is best that once Win11 has been activated, that you go backup whatever you need off of C drive, shutdown, disconnect all secondary drives; then perform a clean OS install via a freshly made Win11 usb flash drive.

Verifying the files found 6 files that needed to be updated. This fixed my problem after upgrading to Windows 11.

Glad it worked out, but a clean install of windows is always preferable to just an upgrade. That way, you will not run into any problems like missing files or the like.

Wipe your drivers out via their installers. Reboot and download + install latest drivers for everything. Chipset, gpu, audio, lan, wifi, bt; etc.

Reboot as needed until all done.

Launch Steam via Run As Admin. Verify a game you have yet to play on Win11 before launching it.

Thanks, that solved it.

I found this thread when I had a somewhat similar issue, so I post my case here:
When I bought a new computer, the game didn't wanted to run anymore, and at first I suspected Windows 11 being the culprit.
In the end I fixed it by checking file integrity, Steam finding six corrupt files, replacing them, and then everything running again.
So I'll leave that as one of the first things to do here. Steam Library -> right click on game -> Properties -> Installed Files -> Verify Integrity

For future reference
Most of the files recovered via verifying tend to be configuration files, so if those same exact files are recovered it likely just means that the default settings had to be corrected and or restored for the game to run properly. This also usually happens if you change said configs at some point and are no longer working properly.

This has always been the case though, a SMALL amount of files recovered are usually just config files. Now if you get 20+ files recovered then thats a different story.

I had the same issue as OP and your solution fixed it, thank you.
