Steam deck and single SD slot
Is it me? Or why do these devices Deck/gpd/ayaneo/etc only have 1 single SD Slot?

Is it not physically possible to do this?

If it is possible then why the heck not do it? 2 1tb SD cards would be insane on the deck for emulation libraries.

Or heck the possibility of 2 2tb SD cards if they ever come out!

It is possible but not economical nor space wise (size of the Deck) reasonable. But it also has a USB-C port.

maybe to keep costs down

How many slots should they have?

Most of the time hardware like the Steam deck is a series compromises. How do you get a reasonable bit of hardware, for a reasonable price?

I mean you can add more slots, larger storage, more RAM, better CPU/GPU. More this and more that. You can cram $2000 worth of hardware in there. But that's not realistic and it's not gonna sell.

So you cut it all down into something that's got a reasonable cost and decent performance. SD slots aren't immune from those considerations. And even if you make up a number, "An SD slot only costs $5!" Alright, and across a hundred thousand units that kinda adds up don't it?

And you can either accept that, or you can dismiss it because it's not your money and not your concern. But it doesn't negate concerns and costs for people who have skin in the game...

more slots, more chances for a bus/chip problem.

I sincerely doubt that adding a second sd card slot would take up more space. they could potentially stack them or single slot two of them like cellphones.

Also I’m aware of the usb c slot but I personally wouldn’t want to attach an external drive that my crazy dog can bump up against or whatever damaging the usb slot. Plus for my emulation library I don’t need the speed it provides just the capacity which SD card speeds are more thenAdequate.

Wow scream for attention much? It’s a second SD card that cell phones have been doing for quite some time now. I didn’t need your price breakdown and adding more components to the system….. it’s a second SD card slot….. chill bro

Is anyone else not interested in the potentialCapacity of 2-4tb on a handheld !?

Not really, no. I have a server with all my backups so I don't need to have everything I own on SD cards.

My PC has a single 1TB NVMe M.2 so no, not particularly.

I have a local NAS at my home with all my my psx/ps2/GameCube/wii/wiiu backups and you can’t Stream data for the those systems via Ethernet non the less wirelessly for emulation…. I’d rather have my library locally…..

Why can't you stream them or transfer what you need, when you need it? There is no way you need over 1k games at all times.

I’m glad your desktop/laptop has 1tb, im discussing a SD card slot….

I don’t care who the heck you are but at even $399 with the emmc is going to be a emulation power house, for me and “select” individuals 1TB or the potential of 2TB is not enough space for my library “as I want the most of my library as possible” and I’d happily take two or more slots….

You asked a question, I presented my thoughts on it. Somehow you'll survive.

Cause when I’m with my Marines I want the smallest unbreakable package.

Most of my guys play Madden/FIFA and they don’t care that it’s ps2.

we do other games like super smash bros with 4 BT game cube controllers and doTournaments….

Some of us even the older guys love to go back and play the classics.

When out abroad unless you’re on a FOB or base that has easy electricity for the troops then I use a foldable solar panel to charge a USB c portable battery on the vehicle to then use to charge my GPD WIN MAX. And depending on the game we can get 2-4 hours of play to improve morale.

I already have, I’m completely indifferent now to your moronic reply and I dismiss you from the conversation. Which I’m sure you’ll NEED to have the last word all sly and potentially intelligently . So go ahead let’s talk buddy
