New SSD clone, updates on Steam games?
Hey, so yesterday I installed a new ssd into my PC, and all is working fine (except the boot I’m still trying to fix), and I cloned all my HDD steam files onto the SSD, everything is across. My question is, when I go onto steam, the files still say they are on the C drive (HDD), so what will happen when the game needs an update, will I not be able to play it through the SSD because steam only recognised it through the HDD even though it’s downloaded onto the SSD? Any hell is appreciated.

If you clone a drive to drive, there should be no difference. When I cloned my old SATA SSD to my new NVMe SSD, even the letter of the drive got copied, Windows didn't noticed any change except the different drive model.

May differ with cloning software though, I used Acronis TrueImage.

Thats what I thought too, Im thinking to just cut my losses and use the SSD as a storage pool for my Steam apps, and have the boot on my HDD.

why would you need to use cloning software?

i just got an ssd NVMe it's way better to format/[put windows 7 on because.], i did read something about this somewhere, where this happens when you use cloning software,.

Yes, Win 10 Home. I downloaded from this site yesterday and tried it, however didn't know what to do after it was on there, think it stopped working again.

This was the link that I used - https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

If you clone a os drive, it's never an issue, if you clone a secondary drive, after the old.drive is removed or formatted make sure the new drive gets assigned the drive letter the old drive was using. You can change these in drive management. Just be sure what you are doing. If you ever install games to an external also, be sure that before you do you make that external have a drive letter much further down the list, so that when removed and plugging in other drives that another drive doesn't grab the drive letter of a drive that is not connected at the moment.
