Xbox Elite Series 2 controller issues
Hi,
I've recently done a new build with windows 11 and steam isn't properly working with my xbox elite series 2 controller. If the controller is plugged in it is recognised as an elite controller and I can see the paddles in controller config however, regardless of how they are mapped the paddles do not work. If the controller is unplugged steam just recognises it as a regular xbox one controller and doesn't knowledge the paddles in controller confog. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the xbox elite driver steam uses to no avail. Does anyone have any other ideas?

Been having trouble with this too, tried reinstalling controller driver, and Steam extended support driver

Your elite 2 controller used to work in the past? I only received mine today, bought it expressly to remap the paddles and now that's not even working.

Can you check something for me? Go to Control Panel -> Devices and Printers, then find your controller, right click -> game controller settings, and that'll show you all of your outputs. The last four buttons are the paddles and they DO NOT light up, no matter what.

It seems like a recent microsoft firmware update broke the paddles, and now when you use the default profile instead of sending a generic button output they're just straight up disabled.

Well I recently built a new PC, on my old PC (windows 10) I could properly remap the paddles in steam. The issue isn't with the controller, I can still use the paddles but I can only customise them with the xbox accessories app and using a profile there rather than with steam. Steam just thinks I have a regular xbone controller. Just to double check for you, the paddles won't work normally if you're in the default profile, have you tried switching to another profile and using the xbox accessories app to see if your paddles work?

Oh I misunderstood your problem, I actually have your exact issue too. If you connect via bluetooth steam just sees a regular xbox controller. If you use a usb cable, OR if you connect using their wireless dongle adapater, then steam sees the elite controller. I don't know if there's a good fix for it, probably just waiting on a driver update.

But what did you mean the paddles don't work in default mode? Doesn't that defeat the purpose of remapping them using the steam controller configurations? If, for instance, you remap a paddle to the X button, then you can't remap your paddle in steam or you'll just remap your x button as well.

The paddles used to be independent inputs that could be configured through steam, weren't they? Everything I'm seeing online says that when you put the controller into default mode, you could remap them to whatever button or keyboard key you wanted.

Sorry yeh that's what I meant, the way they should work with steam is you put them in default mode and then you can remap them in steam, but this works because when they are in default mode if you just use the controller normally the paddles won't do anything you have to change the profile.

But interesting to hear you are having the same issue as me.

When you connect your xbox controller with a USB cable for example does remapping the paddles work for you in steam?

Nope, not over usb or wireless dongle. No paddles. They just dead, they don't produce any signal at all.

I don't even know how to petition Microsoft to fix this, their support channels are garbage and so are their forums. Do they even know their software is broken?

I upgraded to windows 11 and have this issue. i did not update the firmware.

I also have this issue on Windows 10. Tried Bluetooth, Wireless Dongle and USB connection. In addition I reinstalled all drivers and updated the controllers firmware.
Reconfiguration in Steam still not possible (although recognized as Elite Controller). Under Devices and Printers -> Game Controller Settings the additional paddles do not show up.

So I fixed the issue! By luck stumbled across this reddit post that suggested reverting the controller firmware. I reverted and now I can remap the paddles again in steam.
