CoolerMaster Hyper 212 Evo
I have an MSI B150 Bazooka motherboard and I'm planning to upgrade from an i5 6402P to an i7 6700. I saw some tutorials on how to install it, but you have to put something on the back of the motherboard. Is it possible to install the Hyper 212 Evo without taking the motherboard out of your case?

Get something better than a 212 EVO for an i7 class, such as:

Locked i7s have the same tpd as i5s, 65w so there shouldn't be much difference

I'll give the stock cooler a try then. If I notice my CPU getting too hot or the cooler getting too loud, then I'll get the Hyper 212.

Also why don't you get i7-7700? Update your bios to the latest and it will work...only if the price difference is big then get 6700

With CM Hyper 212 EVO you need to take the motherboard out.
Stock cooler that comes with i7-6700 uses simple push-pins so you can just put it in the place and push the pins through the holes, no need to remove motherboard for that.

Just know that while 212 is better than stock, it's absolutely garbage for any serious overclocking. ie ones that involve voltage.

That depends on the case. Many cases have back panels that allow access to the CPU mounting area of the motherboard and you don't need to remove the motherboard to put in a heat sink that requires a back plate.

If it's some decent case then yeah worth to take the back panel off and see if there is cut-out.
If it's some bundle PC like i5 6402P CPU kinda implies then those rarely have that in the case though.

Buy the hyper 103 it's best for non k proc
Also get rid of that stock cooler asap
It's a cancer
My temperature dropped 20 c after using the 103 at peak load times

to install the Hyper evo 212 you have to put on the back plate

i have one on an I5 7600 K

so yea your gonna have to pull the motherboard out .. i wish i had bought a better CPU cooler
not that the cooller master one is bad ..but i think noctuna does make a better CPU cooler that is smaller ..only reason i went with the Hyper evo 212 was it was on sale the day i bought my parts and built my PC.

And it was a pain to wire as the hyper evo is pretty large , getting some of my wires plugged in and doing good cable manegement took over an hour.

CPU stays below 70 C even overclocked to 4.4 GHZ
idle themps around 38 to 40 C

Noctua isn't cheap, the cheapest low profile is twice the cost of Evo 212. The Evo 212 is considered medium size, NH-D14/15/15S and the like dual tower design are large. Thermalright Le Grand Macho Rt is huge.
